I was in Fairbanks on business and the boss chose Silver Gulch for a group dinner. I was glad because I had wanted to check it out. I was familiar with their bottled brews and had heard good things about their restaurant. I was not let down. They had much more to offer than their bottled beer selections. The offered an excellent Pale Ale, a tasty ESB and a bold IPA. The beer selection also included a stout and a barley wine. They were out of the stout the night I went.

All the dishes used beer within their recipes. I had a few of their wings that were pretty tasty. The highlight for me was the IPA battered halibut and chips. As a long time Alaskan, I am a halibut and chips junkie, and this was the best batch I had on this trip. The Halibut was well seasoned and cooked; the fries were battered and rustic. It came with wasabi spiced cole slaw.

It is well worth the drive out to Fox to hit Silver Gulch. The best beer, food and atmosphere I found in Fairbanks.

Just got up to Fairbanks, AK a month ago, and this is the only brewery within a couple hundred miles.
It's about 20-25 minutes from Fairbanks. Not too bad of a drive. The building looks almost brand new from the inside. Very nice. Theres a small gift shop at the entrance where you can buy shirts, beanies, beer related condoments, and glasses. A little bit pricey.
The beer is really good. I got the sampler, which included very generous pours. Looked to be about 4-5oz. The seasonals are great and the standards arent bad either. Great variety, and all tasted very fresh. Couple of bottles of belgians, english, and german beers. Definitely pricey, and not much goin.
The service is good. I've had the same russian guy both times ive been out. Seems to be somewhat knowledgable of the beer.
If you get the chance to come out, you have to get the Weird Beard! This is one of the best beers I've ever had! It's a real bummer you can't get it in a growler. Weird Beard is one of those that could make a great name for a new brewery.

Went here for dinner while I was in the area for work. The location is a bit out of the way, but well worth the drive. We had tried to make reservations, but were told they were full for the evening. They recommended we come in anyway and would work us in. To my surprise, when we arrived, we were seated with no wait.

When you first enter this industrial-looking building, you are greeted with the wonderful smells of the brewing process. If that isn't enough to get you yearning for some brews, I don't know what is. There is a gift shop near the entry with lots of great merchandise, then a bar area, and finally a large, multi-tiered dining area.

The service was very quick and friendly. Plus, the server was very knowledgable and enthusiastic about the beers. We started with nachos, which were above average, and then I decided to go with the salmon. Very fresh and flavorful. Everything on their menu features local Alaskan produce/seafood/meats and frequently the beer is featured in the appetizers and entrees. The beer menu featured around 8 year-round offerings and 8-10 seasonal and special offerings. I went with a winter-seasonal IPA followed up with their porter. Both were excellent.

The menu has a wide variety of offerings and everything sounded good. The prices are definitely up there, even for Alaska. But, I suppose the experience I had made it worthwhile.

A nice touch was that at the end, our server asked if we wanted any growlers to take home. An order was placed and available to pick up in the gift shop in short order.

Our server informed us that Silver Gulch is going to open another location in the Anchorage airport. I think it's great that they are expanding, but the location is a bit of a head-scratcher for me. Sure you have a captive audience in the airport, but unless you are traveling, I don't see how that could be an option. If they opened up a south Anchorage location, I think they would score some significant business.

Returning from that tangent, overall, Silver Gulch exceeded my expectations. This is a well-run operation with deliciously fresh beer.

I was visiting some friends in Fairbanks and they all suggested that I try Silver Gulch while I was in town as it's just up the road from where they live. They all swear by it but, while it was good, it wasn't up to all the hype that many locals spoke about it.

I must say, though, that the food was fantastic. We ate the onion rings, hush puppies and the ale dip. All were superb and well worth the modest prices. I wish I could say the same of all of the brews...

They had a large variety of bottles in the cooler but all were over-priced. The selection was great but clearly pointed to the fact that they were trying to sell THEIR beer here and not anyone else's. The beers that I tasted were above average but nothing to make a sole trip to Fairbanks/Fox for.

Atmosphere was very nice and almost upscale but super relaxed. The service was bar-none and all of the waitresses and barmen were very friendly. I must say that about most of my encounters at businesses in Alaska... Everyone is very friendly.

Great place and I would go back again if I was in town again. They were sold out of pint glasses when I visited though... Sad...

I would never have believed this place would exist in little Fox, Alaska.

Like everyone has said from the outside an old commercial bldg, but once your inside you can see there was a lot of money spent refurbishing this place.

The house beers were a little better than average, the bottle selection was great. The beer knowledge of the staff was suspect.

The food was creative and very tasty albeit a little pricey (It's Alaska, need I say more). The service was great.

The other customers were great, we had a blast. When we went to leave the bartender said" your all set" one of the people sitting with us at the bar had paid our $120 plus bar bill without saying a word.
