7Stern Marzen
On tap at Siebensternbräu, 4 January 2013
,3L for €3,20

Notes: Slight haze. Deep-amber/orange. Rocky white head. Limited retention but decent lacing. Aroma: medium caramel, leafy hops, background fruitiness. Flavor: follows suit, but fuller. Nice fruitiness (apple, berries). Rich malt... maybe a bit heavy on malt, but only a touch, still-in line... I just wish there was more refinement and polish. Overall: drinkable and enjoyable. Certainly worth trying but their specialties are more interesting.

(From notes)

A - Blooming three finger frothy head, with a shimmery copper color...really nice looking. Noticeable rising carbonation

S - Sweetish malts; touch of hop bitterness; overall very muted

T - Maltiness up front, touch sour, bready, and pretty basic stuff. Almost like a beefed up lager.

M - Medium MF, not as bubbly as suggested in the appearance.

D - Would consider this a sessionable brew as it is pretty solid all around.

Overall, fairly straightforward brew, but very drinkable. More traditional version of the style, and glad to have been able to have the style in its hometown.

Brought a fresh 0.5 l bottle from the brewery, best before 10 February.
Pours orange/copper in colour, nice one finger white head, almost no visible fizz.
Hops and malts in the smell, nothing much.
Sweet malts up front, with some nice fruitiness following, apple and pear, sweet oranges, faint exotic fruit. Some brown sugar. Spicy-sour yeasts. Crisp from some nice citrus. Herbal notes get bitter towards the end, with a nice example of a hoppy finish. No metallic taste, but nice and green-leafy (a tiny bit of tobacco).
Aftertaste is nice, with a bitter-sweet balance. Great session beer, especially fresh from the tap. Makes me feel sorry i couldn't try more of their brews.
