Very carbonated, leaving a nice whitish 3-finger head on top of a light golden body. Effervescence rises like Alka Seltzer. Head coats the rim of the tulip as it subsides

The fruitiness of a ripe pear and crisp green grape are apparent. Ditto with the yeasty, musty smell that come to mind immediately upon whiffing. Then as the head settles I get the sugar acute and clean yet of course sweet.

Candi, fermented and not, coats the mouth gently yet firmly. Very soft and velvety on the tongue. There is a wholesome, sweet white bread dough to it as a nice surprise, and some natural yeasty spiciness to accompany. The alcohol is like an active fireplace across the room: doesn't quite get you warm, but you feel it and it is comforting. Not getting the "distinctive hop bouquet" promised on the bottle, but I do appreciate the work the flowers do to help dry up the sweetness, plus that earthiness it adds throughout.

Another dangerous Belgian Tripel. I could drink these all day in the summer and all night in the winter as versatile as it is. Not as complex or strong as I've had, but that does not score badly with me on this. Just makes me feel like drinking more!

One of the "1001 Beers You Must Taste Before You Die" -- #50 of the ones I've reviewed here.

There are a few Belgians that, at least in my neck of the woods (Philadelphia) seem to be omnipresent. I don't know why, they're not necessarily better or worse than any other Belgians, but for whatever reason if a bar or a restaurant or a beer store sells Belgians, they'll have these. Maybe its distribution?

One Belgian you can find throughout Philadelphia is Corsendonk, both it's dubbel and tripel. I had the dubbel yesterday and rather liked it, its a little less sweet and more "bracing" than other dubbels I've tried.

The one in the "1001" book is this, though, the tripel. Pours really wonderfully, a sort of brownish yellow that I suspect is hard to come by, because I don't see it all that often in tripels. The nose is flat, biggest disappointment of the beer IMHO, although after a bit you'll get dried fruits, alchohol, some citrus, a bit of honey. Mouthfeel is exceptionally soft, almost silky, though somehow it manages to retain its effervescence in the glass, no mean trick.

The flavors are about what you'd expect for the style: dried fruit (especially raisins or prunes), some xmas spice, a bit of citrus. A dry blast at the end makes this a bit crisper than other beers in the style (their dubbel has something of the same effect).

While I do think the nose is deficient all in all I think this is one of the better tripels out there, nothing overwhelmingly fancy but exceptionally well-made. Arguably a good entry point into the style, actually, due to its intrinsic competency.

Poured from bottle into tulip. Nice coloring, slightly hazy orange to golden amber, with a quickly dissipating two finger head. Aroma is grass and wheat. Taste increased in complexity as I drank the beer, I got a strong malt kick on my first sip and after a few more started picking up the wisps of fruit like pear apple and raisin. Towards the end I even started to pick up some honey and citrus. Overall an awesome
Tripel!
