This beer is now brewed by Heineken at this location (I believe). Draught into a lovely tall vase shaped glass in the ‘DAB Bar’ on the same street as a Berlin Brewpub that is always closed when I try to get in.
The beer looked a picture, dark brown, very dark in fact: a tan coloured creamy foam head sat on top throughout the tasting.
Malty, chocolaty and roasted caramel molasses made up the smells.
Those aroma giving malts also dominated the taste, with hints of coffee and toffee flavours now coming through along with the chocolate and caramel notes mentioned in the smells.
Medium body for a schwarzbier, some I’ve found to be rather thin: this was one of the better ones for body depth and strength.
It looked, good, it had a good smell and it tasted good too: one of the best schwarzbiers I’ve come across (this being my 15th review in that style).
