Pours pale golden with a nice compact bright white head and plenty of carbonation. The head fades quickly but leave a nice protective layer that lasted as long as the beer did. Bready grassy sweet aroma with a bit of fruitiness. The taste is very refreshing with a nice spicy zing from the hops both up front and in the finish. Lots of grassy herbal notes and maybe a touch of citrus. Plenty of biscuity malt sweetness; this beer seems to be a bit light on bitterness for style. The finish is fairly dry with a good clean aftertaste. Light bodied and goes down easy. Not as in your face as a lot of other Pils, maybe a good gateway beer from BMC. This is a great thirst quenching beer and I could down quite a few.

A fine pilsner with more flavor than most. Both bready malt and noble hop flavors shine in the flavor of this beer. The aroma is fairly nondescript, nothing bad but not much more than a fresh dinner roll malt note. The malt is a bit too simply sweet, but the hops cut right through the sugar. It's a surprisingly big flavor for the abv and style. A pleasant surprise.

A: Zatec pours a brilliant dark straw color, with a foamy white head that settles quickly, and leaves just a thin film on the surface.

S: Malty, with biscuit and honey, with a fruity, floral hop aroma. Still displays some of that "Euro" character.

T: Floral and fruity hop character to begin with, but the sweet malt shines through with hints of biscuit, sweet corn, and some apple. The hops kick in again, giving the beer a dry, clean finish.

M: Light bodied, but has a long finish. Dry and very crisp.

D: Very mild for this style. Zatec is extremely easy to drink, and very sessionable.

In the beer wasteland that is Southern-Southern Minnesota (yes Southern-Southern), I decided to do a little exploring into foriegn beers to pass the week.

Zatec pours a medium gold color with the slightest hint of haziness and a very lively carbonation. White head has great retention and leaves tons of lacing.

The aroma is biscuity and bready malts up front, with grassy and spicey hops and herbal notes.

The taste is more malty than hoppy, with sweet and bready malts dominating, with a nice balancing spicey hop character. Grassy hops and doughy bready malts. There is also a banana like character going on.

Medium body with a clean and crisp feel. Nothing out of the ordinary, and just right. Drinkability is great.

The farther along I get in my beer travels, and as my taste buds evolve more and more, I find myself appreciating the simple things, like great Pilsners. This is one of those. Head over heels better than any macro Pilsner out there that I've ever tried.

The surprise favorite (by a long shot) of the weekend.

Zatec Pilsener pours a dark yellow, almost amber, with a two finger head that dissipates to a splotchy skin covering. The aroma is sweet blandness. The taste too, is sweet, mild and inoffensive. The feel is light bodied and not much carbonation. Zatec is highly drinkable due to it's low ABV and mild taste.

To sum it up, all I can say is ehh, moderate, middle of the road, etc.

500ml bottle poured into pint glass dec4 2009

A clear light yellow with loads of bubbles and two fingers of bone white head that has great retention and leaves lots of lace. pretty sexy looking if you ask me

S some honey, floral hops and a fair bit of malt with a little lemon

T more malt then hops but pretty a decent balance to go with the sweet citrus, I'm enjoying this one

M crisp, clean, very smooth and well carbonated, no complaints here

D very nice I have no major complaints with this beer other then the price

I've been told there's record of Zatec paying taxes in 1004, so after a thousand years it only makes sense that they could brew a great lager

pour of a golden yellow color with not that much head on it. white head without lace. nose is very floral or lavender and pollen... sweet malt honey. palate is not crisp hoppy but is clean and a mild sweet. has that quality of musky straw but not coarse or alkaline. easier to drink that crechvar.

Medium gold color thats got a slight haze to it and lots of bubbly action within that retains its firmly set cappinf of stark white foam everpresent. Lacing coats with some thickly set spots and shortened strings.

Aroma is a bit musty/mushy/musky of dull wheaty breadish doughy malt with just a ever so slight pull of Saaz hop grassyness.

More malt then hops this is adequately nice to the taste buds with a clean yet mushy mash of breadish doughy maltyness thats not light nor heavy and lifts off into the finish with just a slight nudge to some grassy hops and dryish croissant dough.

Body is just under medium but keeps a well distributed malty base of doughyness thats clean and puffy with tender breadyness within. Simple, clean inviting finish thats just crisp enough to keep it within reach of a new sip.

A quiet Czech Pils that has more malt then most, but I liked it either way and is a solid sessionable brew that stands on its own over most, if not all, macro type lagers or Pils.

A - Dark yellow color. Nice white head. Hardly any lacing.

S - Had a bit of a skunky smell to it. Little hoppy with some grass smell. A bit of lemon and floral notes.

T - It's a typical pilsner. Take that with a grain of salt, I said typical. I didn't say good. It's... average. A bit grassy on the taste. Nothing really jumps out at you. The taste doesn't leave you disappointed, but it definitely leaves you wishing it tasted better. It's just really simple and standard. Not bad though.

M - Medium bodied with low carbonation. It's what you would expect just by looking at this beer or knowing it was a pils.

D - The best thing about this beer is you could drink a couple of them easily. I'm not saying you'd actually want to or like to drink a couple, but it's very very easy to drink.
The beer didn't jump out and grab me.
Again, it wasn't bad, but it just dind't do it for me.
Very average on all levels.

500ml brown bottle. no date. tasted in mid-may 2009.

clear golden straw color. 1-finger head fades to thin wispy layer. lacing is pretty sparse except for the bottom 1/3 of the glass.

aroma: bready malt, faintest hint of apple, lots of aromatic and floral/herbal saaz hops. but then... the apple comes in strongly again towards the back. whiff of sulfur (but bordering on skunk... uh oh...)

taste: similar to aroma, but a bit watery. moderate bitterness from the saaz, but not as fresh as hoped, mixing with possible phenol/fusel, and again that apple. green apple, to be precise - acetylaldehyde? "uh oh" again...

light body, smooth, with hint of astringency for a flash in the finish before smoothing out again. crisp, moderate carbonation.

i'm burping up skunk though...

i have a feeling this is an old bottle. the lack of a date or batch numbering scheme is almost never a good thing.

Poured from 16.9oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: translucent, medium-straw colored with very limited head; practically no lacing.

Smell: very subtle aroma; the hops seem to have a very light floral smell.

Taste: not a whole lot of bitterness. Flavor is tipped toward the malty side of the scale, with not a lot of complexity; still not bad for a lager.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a lower level of carbonation than I would normally expect.

Drinkability: highly drinkable, although I think the unbalanced maltiness would get to me after a little while.

A: Pour two and a half fingers of slightly off-white head that fairly quickly dissipates. Head retention is minimal, with not much lacing at all. Beer is hazier and darker than many pilsners I've tried with an almost sunset yellow color. Carbonation is less than expected.

S: Definitely has the pilsner nose, but with more. The malt can be detected a great deal more than in most beers of the style. While the same grassy and hoppy notes are present, there is a sweetness and minerality in the nose that isn't in most pilsners I've tried. It's surprising, and good.

T: The same mineral notes are very prevalent throughout the beer. Grass and grain lead the way when sipped, followed by subtle malty tones and tart, under ripe fruit. The hop bitterness caries this through the finish, with citric and herbal/vegetal tones appearing. The aftertaste is minerality and diacetyl (green apples). Very refreshing. This seems like it'd be a great food beer.

M: Pilsner body. Fully carbonated without being aggressive in its seltzer qualities.

D: Pilsner. Crush it. Drink it all night. Not high enough in alcohol to get you in trouble unless you're a real jackass and tasty enough to drink with enjoyment.

Pours a very light yellow honey color with a nice white head.

Nose is a light floral grapefruit with hints of light pine and light white bread/yeast.

Very pleasant light hop/yeast flavors with actually a nice balance; crisp, clean although somewhat short in the finish. Relatively simple character and flavor.

A bit light/thin/weak for my taste but very fresh and clean tasting.

Thanks goes out to Bitterbill for this brew.

Poured into a mug a very nice clean/clear golden yellow color, nice carbonation, nice one-finger creamy white head, with some nice sticky lacing left behind. The nose is malty, slight hop, fruity. The taste is sweet, malty, slight hop notes, and some nice fruityness. Medium body. Drinkable, this is a very tasty brew, glad to have had a chance to try it.

Fantastic example of the style! I had this back to back with a Pilsner Urquell (draft) while eating a hearty Czech meal and loved the Zatec. Although it was close I preferred the Zatec over the Urquell. It is perfectly balanced between sweet malt and drying hops. Nothing is overpowering here and I certainly intend that as a complement. Subtly and restraint like this is a long process of refinement that rarely gets the credit it deserves.

Coppery golden with a soft and foamy pure white head that leaves fine lace on the glass. Smells of grassy, slightly menthol/mint hops with rich grain. Tastes rich and smooth with fresh bready malt and grassy saaz hops. Light bodied and refreshing with nice hop bittering in the finish. A great session beer and way underrated IMO.

Average in every respect .
It has a sourness , that can be a downfall for my palate in Pilsners ,which is the most remarkable thing about this beer.
it is pleasnt and enjoyable but very ho hum middle of the road.
Many others offer greater delights in the fascinating world of Czech Pilsners

1.9 pint brown bottle poured into Brooklyn pokal.

A - a slightly hazy brazen color. a good forming head, bright white, that quickly thins down to a whispy layer on top.

S - a light smell of citrus, concentrating on orange peel, and some grain like sweetness.

T - bitter hops are right out front, while the faint grain/malty sweetness lingers in the back. the malts stick around for the finish and dominate that area of the tasting process, while the primary after taste is a bitter and cereal-like taste. not a very complicated beer, and the hops are not very prevalent. I haven't a clue as to why this was on the great beers display along with westmalle and samuel smith.

MF&D - the feel is slightly thicker and heavier than water, and the lack of carbonation makes the beer feel quite dull over all. I would preferably find another beer rather than have another one of these.

Taste: Light malt with yeast, and some citrus. There are notes of esters, there is a sulfur, and sweet honey

Overall: It is a light beer that to me is kinda skunky. It is easy drinking. The mouthfeel is carbonation, with a sight bitterness at the end. The finish lingers in your mouth but for just a second. Not a great pilsner, just okay

Pours a clear darkish yellow color body, big foamy white head, lasting. Strong malty aroma, some balancing hops and dryness present too. Some fresh grain scents. Nutty malty taste, clean tasting. Somewhat grainy, nutty aftertaste. Crisp. Satisfying, and a decent amount of flavor. Very carbonated. Not too shabby. Less flavor as it warms.

Found this in a VT general store. not too shabby.

A: Decent tight head. Not the prettiest color. It's a little dark. Just enough to make it look off.

S: Muted czech hops. A little sharpness in there.

T: I can see how people wouldn't be fond of this, but i found it intriguing. Not a light pils. Caramel down the tongue, ends with butterscotch.

M: Not bad. Once again, full for a pils.

D: Surprisingly so. Dunno if they threw some vienna in there but i could go for a few more of these.
