Lemony amber with a filtered clarity and a three finger crown of yellowed ivory. The foam has some heft to it and appears to be reasonably sticky in the bargain. Too bad there's very little lace. The appearance is a little better than fair-to-middlin'.

I wish some (make that all) of these Euro lagers had dates on them. There's no reason for me to think this particular bottle is old, but the nose is less than tremendously hoppy. Each inhale brings a modest amount of Saaziness that is on the musty (and musky) side rather than being bright and snappy.

Same thing on the palate. There's a fraction more malt present than is usual for the style, so maybe that's why the hops aren't as pungent as they could be. As I get into the middle portion of the bottle, the bitterness becomes more noticeable, although the hop flavor doesn't improve substantially. In addition to musty, there's now a grassiness and a mild spiciness that keeps me somewhat interested.

The mouthfeel is appropriately light. Unfortunately, it doesn't hang in there until the finish and could stand to have a few more bubbles zipping around. I always like it when the carbonation is lively enough to make up for the flavor profile's shortcomings. It tells me that at least some part of the beer is trying.

Zatecky Pivovar has a long, storied tradition of brewing. I'm a little skeptical of the 'since 1004' on the label since I've always thought that Brauwerei Weihenstephan is the world's oldest brewery, having started operations in 1040. In any case, Zatec is far from the best Czech pilsener on the planet and isn't worth a purchase as far as I'm concerned.

Zatec Pilsner pours a big fluffy head over a clear
golden brew. Carbonation is lively and the nose is
light barley malt. The flavor is pleasant, slightly sweet
barley malt balanced out by an herbal hop finish.
Mouthfeel is a little thin, but crisp, and there's just a bit
of that herbal hop in the aftertaste. Pretty simple stuff
really, but not a bad little pils. Worth a try.

A really nice Czech Pilsener. Poured a crystal clear golden straw from a 500mL bottle. Two finger snow white head shrunk to a finger or finger and a half, but stayed put nonetheless. Streams of CO2 continuously traveled skyward throughout the drink. Smell was a bit grainy and of course, rather strong of lager yeast. Some Saaz detectable. Very average, I would say, neither being offensive nor particularly special. Taste was malty up front with definite Saaz presence on the back end. I felt this was a better than average Czech Pilsener with a nice mouthfeel and subtle, yet enjoyable flavour. I felt in the way Czechs, this was much better than Pilsener Urquell. A definite session lager if that's your thing. Not bad, all things considered.

Classic Pilsener appearance, clear golden colored beer with no trace of chill haze and a good puffy white head. A little more head and it would have received a higher score.

Sharp Nobel hop scent and it isn't exactly shy. Herbal, grassy, spicy and a bit bitter smelling the malt is completely secondary here. Mild Pilsener malt, it mostly just stays out of the way.

The taste begins sweet and grainy, not what I expected from the smell. Malty for the style the hop is mostly a bitter aftertaste.

The mouthfeel is OK.

It is always a shame when a beer scores so well in appearance and smell but doesn't deliver in the taste department. This is an OK beer but just not a great one. I cold see tasting this again in Europe but there is no reason to get a six pack of this stuff.

500ml, no date on it. New in the Texas market so hopefully it's fresh. Served in a Weizen glass. Very bright gold color with a large initial head that immediately collapsed, leaving not even a film across the top. Grainy malt nose with a very light touch of hops. Flavor is blah, with bland grainy malt and little bitterness. Fairly well-attenuated, so not very sweet. Clean finish.

A below average Czech pils. No real flaws, except for blandness.

A - Poured out a clear, golden yellow color with a bubbly, white, three-finger head. It left small amounts of lace.

S - It smelled of grains/corn and a light malt.

T - It tasted of sweet corn and had a slight hop bite. Again, a light caramel taste.

M - It was crisp and smooth. A light-bodied beer.

D - Not great, but an average Czech Pils. Maybe a little over priced at $3 for a 1pint 0.9oz bottle.

Great Czech beer in an amber bottle. Classic grainy bitter sweet profile. Bright (like the label says) lager. Nice head with plenty of lace. Very good carbonation. good bittersweet finish too. And a good session beer if this is your style. Clear yellow gold color. Extra clean character.

Pours with a frothy, initially three finger thick, light tan colored head. The beer is a brilliantly clear, rich gold color. Aromatic notes of sweet, butterscotch malt, grassy grain and spicy hops. This has a really inviting aroma to it, I really like the mix of hop and malt notes, though it could perhaps use a touch more hop aromatics.

Fairly dry, with an almost tartness, though not really. Biscuit like malt and a fresh grain character are accented by a hint of butterscotch. The beer is fairly well carbonated which provides an extra tingle on the tongue and a touch more palate cleansing character. Herbal hop notes evoke thoughts of lemon grass, hints of mint, fresh cut hay, and an almost green basil like thing. A touch of bitterness in the finish, as well as a touch of lemon-like tartness. This is on the dry side for a traditional Czech Pilsner, it seems to be lacking that malt fullness and even the diacetyl is a touch on the lower end. Still this is a decent beer, one which I would happily consume a few pints of.

An undeniably European flare to this "bright lager beer" as the bottle refers to itself...

Poured fine, nothing remarkable...normal...a clear, golden body...bits of bubbly carbonation...it did keep a minimal head throughout...no real lacing to speak of.

A potent, grainy-like scent, but it delivers a nice smooth flavor....not sharp like some pilsners can be, and no bitterness...fresh and easy going. A good summer beer.

Bright, high-clarity yellow color...a finger of foam rises and falls to a film. Spritzy, crisp carbonation, very light feeling. Spotty lacing that washes itself away. Aroma of bready grain, honey, vague herbals.

Taste is also light in that it's fairly simple and straightforward. Some nuance of herbal hop with a lingering peppery tingle on the tongue. Mineral water, pale malt, and i'm guessing noble hops form the key components of this Czech Pils.

Very easy drinking, light carbonation, with a delicate body. No offensive qualities, clearly a fresh sample. Refreshing on a hot summer night...

Received from my salesman as a sample.

Served chilled and poured into a Weizen glass.

Appearance is good. Bright gold color with one finger worth of head on top. Decent amount of lace fills the inside of the glass. Many carbonation bubbles rapidly moving to the top. Spot on for the style.

Smell is average. Grassy hops jump out with an earthy malt background that evens things out.

Taste is average. Grassy again. Earthy malts again. Not much else. Finishes clean and bland.

Mouthfeel is above-average. Nice lively presence when it hits the pallet but finishes very thin.

Drinkability is above-average. To call this beer an easy drinker would be an under-statement. Incredibly smooth. Too bad the flavor and thin mouthfeel makes me not want another bottle.

Overall: A run-of-the-mill lager that does nothing to excite me. Not so bad for the style, but then again, it's not a style I'm into anyway.

Pours with a dirty gold color and a head that never quite dissipates. Slight aroma of some salty bananas and cooked grains. There's relatively little Saaz character for a beer so named. On the palate, rather bland and inoffensive, with bitter hops kicking things off before things become a bit more rounded with pale malts. Nothing too deep or interesting. Mouthfeel is light, with medium carbonation, with yet again no distinguishing characteristics. Overall, this is a blah beer that has little to recommend it, but little to leave a drinker disgusted. It commits the cardinal sin of being nothing.

Straw yellow colored, pils foam, white anc compact.
Grassy, good hop. But even the malt is perceptible.
In the taste is a little more malty, even if in the back the bitterness is still well present. Dry.
Grassy bitterness aftertaste, even if not really long.
Pleasant and drinkable beer, typical czech pils.
