.5L bottle, poured into a pokal. Initial two finger head that settles to a trace. A nice pale straw gold. Aroma is crisp and fresh. Mouthfeel is quite decent. Schlägl did a respectable job in toning down the hops from their bog-standard Urquell. This is my choice drink when in Upper Austria (my second home is 7 km from the brewery), so I consider this a very drinkable beer.

This is a perfect Helles (even though it was made in Austria and not Germany…)
Had other Austrian Helles before but this one is undoubtedly the best. It is exactly like a class A German one, not too bitter, not too sweet and not over carbonated either. Even has a little bit of that saltiness that I like in a Helles. An absolute classic, can only recommend it!

It pours a rather dark yellowish brown. The aroma is nutty and fairly sweet. The taste is similarly malty with some sweet notes. Not much in terms of hops but I think this was a rather old bottle.

Poured from 500mL bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: light golden hue with a light murk and a moderate effervescence. Head is a thick finger of frothy white foam which leaves a chunky lace as it slowly dissipates. I actually quite like it.
Smell: big malty aroma with a pretty big sweetness and a little bit of graininess to balance things out a bit. A little on the sweet side for my taste, but good nonetheless.
Taste: big and malty, but not to quite as good an effect as in the aroma. The slightly-sweet of the smell has become a little bit of a sickly-sweet in the flavor. The nice graininess is there, though, and this is still a pretty flavorful beer.
Mouthfeel: light body with a big carbonation which is a little on the thin side, but still pretty nice. I like it.
Overall: this beer is too sweet for my taste, but is a richly-flavored example of the style.

i gave the double bock a sympathetic review due to its higher abv, but the kristal has the same apparent bitterness to it. a different bitterness, more like a pils, but still a little more bitter than i prefer even taking into consideration the taste is inherent of the brewery.
very little foam, inconsistent lacing; bland, corn-like color. someone earlier suggested it is made with corn. but that's not possible in germany (or austria?), is it?
taste is pils-sy, bitter up front, but sweeter and more delectable around the sides of the tongue and at the finish. mouthfeel is generic for a german/austrian and overall i suppose this is still better than any of the commercial american standards, and seesionable, but not my first pick from 'over there'. i really prefer the erdinger kristal to this and, ultimately, wish spate would bring back the old CLUB-WEISSE. maybe it's just the memory, but man i loved that stuff. if anybody knows why they discontinued it, please send me a line. even the guys at Old WOrld in HB dont seem to know why they quit on this brew. it seemed wildly successful here in the states.... prost!.

Pale hay and brass color. Not much head or foamage, but there is a ring of foam that last for all 16 oz. of the bottle. A few small, sluggish bubbles here and there.
Grass and hay with a little musty, syrupy toasted pilsner malt aroma. Smells OK.
Musty pilsner malt, water crackers, a little metallic grass and hay. Easy to drink, but nothing special. Palate is a little tinny and syrupy.

Golden and slightly hazy with very little head.
The aroma is canned corned with a hint of sulpher and some malty sweetness.
Light, spritzer like, and initially sweet. There is a corn sugar sweetness followed by a bitter, earthy, hop dryness.
The beer is ok. It's pretty much a sub-standard Euro Lager. It doesn't look all that appealing, smell too enticing, or excite the taste buds. On the other hands it's light, refreshing and easy to drink.

A: The pour is a clear golden color with a finger of short lived white head.
S: Smells like a crappy lager. Sweet with lots of corn and a bit of sulfur sweetness. Some white grape juice, maybe a bit of grain husk and pale malt aromas.
T: Quite sweet with some of the same sugar, corn, corn syrup, and grape juice flavors. There might be a little bit of apple juice and definitely a little bit of grain husk and bread.
M: Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation.
O: Much like any number of other crappy lagers I've had. Not a fan.

Pours pale golden to orange color, quite hazy with lots of carbonation and fizzy, white head. Pleasant, malty aroma with a bit of caramel and floral hoppiness, but with some planty off-notes lurking underneath. The taste is bready and malty and quite dry; a touch watery perhaps. Some floral German hops come through towards the end. Leaves a pleasant, malty aftertaste. The mouthfeel is unexpectedly flat and heavy on the tongue.

My parents brought this over for a birthday tasting a month ago, & amidst the bounty, we didn't get to it then. I wonder where they found it? Not many reviews for this brewery on BA.
Pour is suggestive of the name, crystal-clear, the color of sun-bleached wheat. Smell is an often read, never quite experienced thing: cooked corn. Cream corn, to be exact. Not enticing.
Kristall has to be made out of 100% corn; cooked, boiled, squashed, creamed, wormy, in-the-field-too-long, sat-on corn. Leaves an atrocious aftertaste.
Personally, I don't think anything of this pedigree, i.e. low ABV, pale, lagerish, should be shipped overseas & presented as beer. This might be palatable, or even good, near the source, but who knows how many weeks/months this spent in transit to St. Paul, Minnesota. Awful.

Picked this up at an LA beerfest, have had a few Austrian lagers but not this. I have had Steigl on draft in Austria, and this brings me right back there. Crisp hops, clean refreshing flavor with a little zip to it, great beer. I will be looking out for more of this in Cali, i can imagine this being pretty tasty on tap.
