Just found this brand at a local grocer that caters to more imported goods than most. The brewery calls this a Märzen, despite the BA label.

A -- Pours a hazy straw to golden color with a susdsy white head that settles to a persistent cap leaving nice lacing. I always take points off for a lager that isn't clear, unless it's specifically a Zwickel or the like.

S -- Mild, bready malt with some light DMS. I'll give a little for the good melanoidin character in the nose.

T -- Light breadiness to some cracker-like character and even light rye toward the end. Some light spicy to citric noble hops in the finish. The more I drink this beer, the more I'm enjoying the balance of malt and hop. It's pretty well made.

M -- Mouthfeel is soft and smooth with a medium-light body.

O -- A pretty nice drinker, very clean and satisfying in flavor, if a bit light in character for a Märzen (traditional amber or Wiesn style, but maybe they brew in the original sense of the term?). To me this is a good Helles for anyone interested in trying different takes on the style.

500 mL bottle,

A: Pours goldenrod, a shade or two darker than the average pale lager. Fizzy white head, average retention, no real lace.

S: Grainy malt, cracked cereal.

T: Refreshing bready malt character with a nice herbal spicy hop attack. For the style, quite tasty.

M: Light-bodied, crisp, easy drinking.

O: A very solid pale lager, I thought I had had this before, but I was mistaken. A good 50 cL.

The bottle says Marzen beer.

Only a quick foam after the pour. No head or foamage after that. A few sluggish bubbles make there way to the top of the beer. Color is a copper and brass mix.

The aroma has syrupy sweet, lightly toasted malts and maybe some musty grassy hops. Notes of old crackers and biscuits are picked up too.

Pretty simple, syrupy texture. Biscuit and cracker syrup malts, maybe a some toasty malt flavors mix with musty green grass. The beer tastes plain and old. Won't buy again.

(Served in an imperial strange)

A- This beer pours a clear body with just a touch of haze in the deep caramel hued body with a lumpy beige head that last for the full beer and has some nice lacing with each sip. There is a slow sea of microbubbles that swirl their way to the top.

S- The dry flint pils malt has a note of honey malt behind it and a soft green Noble hop aroma is crisp in the finish.

T- The dry carbonic acid blends with Pils malt and leads to just a touch of sweetness in the finish. There is a hint of honey malt to the finish and a crisp hop taste that is green and slightly earthy.

M- This beer has a light mouthfeel with a nice fizz in the finish and no alcohol heat noticed.

O- This is a wonderful Pilsner with no sulfur qualities and a nice subtle depth to the malt which is supported by a crisp dry hop character. This one goes down fast.

A-Pours a pale golden bordering on orange with a finger and a half of frothy, white head.

S-Smells of sweet and bready malt with some light caramel and zesty citrus.

T-Lemon rind upfront with some bready malt with a bit of dry, graininess and lime on the finish.

M-Slick feel with some light, prickly carbonation, a light body and a crisp, drying finish.

D-Very easy drinking, lighter beer that retains some complexity without being full flavored.

A-pours a nice clear gold color with a highly effervescent two fingers head some slight retention with nice lacing throughout.

S-nice light earthy hoppiness and very little else besides maybe a slight honey smell..

T-a little yeasty but taste is mostly earthy hops with a dash of bitterness that is nicely refreshing.

M-this is a light bodied beer that washes away clean only the slightest of hop resides on the palate after each swallow.

d- this is a very light and refreshing beer would be nice on a summers day with bbq only wish we could get it in the US. the only reason I have this is because my wife just took a business trip to Austria.(thanks Hon!)

.5L emptied into a pokal.

A: Pours a medium gold with a slightly off-white 2-finger head which slowly settles to a stubborn ring. Even lacing which sticks nicely to the sides of the glass.

S: The smell is subdued, but there is a nice hoppy undertone.

M: Medium body with a nice amount of carbonation.

T: Standard fare, with the hops providing the bite and the malt filling in the gaps. Overall, the taste is dominated by the Saaz hops, giving the beer a nice earthy tone. I can't put my finger on it, but something lets this beer down. Perhaps the malt is not as balanced as it should be. Maybe the hops are a bit too much. It's subtile but noticeable.

D: This is a drinking beer, for everyday imbibing. Urquell is the standard beer from Schlägl, the beer to be found on tap most often under the banner, and it shows. Not my favorite offering from the brewery, but a solid choice.
