Presentation: 11oz bottle (production code of 1558384) in an oversized crystal snifter

Poured thick and strong with a soft sizzle. Huge sweet, malted nose full of raisins, prunes, brown sugar, dark caramel, faint dark cherry and chocolate. With some bloom comes a soft nutty quality and cold, oily black, end of the pot office coffee the next morning. The soft burn of alcohol hangs over all of this like a morning fog.

A faint, lively pencil's worth of loose, toffee hued foam quickly faded into practically nothing, an excuse of a oily sheen resting on the surface with a delicate edge ring, exposing a cherry amber stained mahogany hue, almost port like in color.

Mmm...thick, rich, syrupy, but not overpowering. There is a subtle delicate nature to it which caught me off guard. Don't get me wrong...its a big beer, but the initial taste & mouthfeel are almost fragile in construction. Sweet with fruits like raisin & cherry, the malts coat the tongue with a velvet glove of malted porn. Its soft & smooth, no hard edges only round corners....very Feng Shui with the lack of poisoned arrows!!

As a result of this smoothness, its alarmingly easy to drink, which could be potentially dangerous given the over 9% ABV lurking in the background (more about that later). Need to slow this down!

Burnt coffee & chocolate are barely present in the malts (damn, this is easy to drink) as well as some burnt caramel. It just rolls like a damp morning fog over my mouth, gradually intensifying in feel, growing slightly bittersweet & finally combusting with that aforementioned, yet well hidden thus far, alcohol igniting with a cool fire in & on my teeth, finishing so smooth, clean, with not so much a chewy feeling but rather a sensation that a really good chocolate leaves where your mouth is coated in lushness & it naturally wants more.

A damn nice beer, and oh so smooth! A real malt lover's treat. This was lush, soft, welcoming, a ride over slowly cresting hills. This was one of the smoothest beers I can remember, which is a testament to Kulmbacher for creating such a easy flowing, high octane (you were warned) beer. This screams for some fully bloomed Bleu cheese, all creamy & smooth, to echo the mouthfeel, or some dry aged cheddar to completely contrast it. A great sipper and cold weather brew. Definitely recommended!

Pours a brilliant deep brown with garnet highlights and a frothy cream head that dissipates to minimal foam.

Molasses, treacle, dates, raisins, figs, and prunes form the aroma.

Flavor follows suit, with dark fruit balancing against toasted malt and a lightly bitter, tar finish. The balance is definitely sweet, but that dry finish prevents it from being cloying.

Body is full, with minimal carbonation. Alcohol warmth is surprisingly moderate.

The melanoidin character and deep esters really stand out and balance each other well.

Location: Halftime Mamaroneck
Glassware: Tulip

Appearance: Brown in color and tan in carbonation this beer pours with a thumb width head that quickly (And I do mean quickly) evaporates. We are left with a light carbonation ring that slightly hides the browning edges of the beer.
Aroma: A dark cherry syrup fruit flavor kicks us off and fruity scents of plums and even raspberries can be found in the background. An alcohol nose follows that resembles light rum. Malts are prominent in the aroma as well.
Flavor: The fruit flavors move from a syrupy aroma to a licorice flavor as the cherry is still at the front. The malt is toasted and gives the beer a nice body. The beer finishes with a light alcohol flavor that is deceptive considering the 9.2% ABV.
Mouthfeel: I find the beer to be less syrupy then other eisbocks that I have tried. But it clearly follows the style. Medium in body light in carbonation.
