On tap in Erlangen, Germany

A: Pours a nice hazy golden color with a strong fluffy white head. Nice retention.

S: Spicy aroma with moderate banana notes.

T: Taste has a nice balance of the typical hefeweizen notes of wheat, banana, clove. I find the Kapuziner to be slightly more spicy than other examples but in a good way.

M: Medium body with high carbonation typical of this style.

O: A very good hefeweizen but a slightly different take on the style than the breweries in Munich put out.

Serving type: on-tap

Six months before sell-by-date.

This is another one of those beers where I thought it wasnt going to be great just from the label (dont judge a book by it's cover...)

Bottle is cold, maybe 6 or 7°C (less than 45°F).
Pours a big head that overflows, colour is cloudy dull orangish yellow. No lacing.

Smell is cloves - I dont think I've yet smelt so clearly and strongly just one thing from a beer. Maybe if it was warmer there'd be more going on - and I still have to tip in the end of the bottle.

It is very carbonated - too much - in spite of the agressive pour.
First taste is cloves. There's that medicinal thing going on - I like it, but it's a bit too metallic in the finish. As it warms I get lots of fruitiness filling out the picture. Still got that medicinal finish but the fruit soften the metal.

Adding the yeast rounds it out another little bit - but not as much as I'd hoped. Fills out the aroma nicely though.
This beer reminds me a lot of Schneider-Weisse Tap 7 wheat beer - both really good !

(flip top bottle, code 2348312 - poured into a weizen glass)

A: huge, billowy head out of the bottle, bit of a mashed potato contour as it falls... light amber liquid with a mild haze... superb head retention - solid cm cap

S: day old white bread, banana chips... background dried grass... pretty textbook stuff, if a tad dull (likely not the freshest of bottles!)

T: dried yeast, dead grass, delicate powdered clove and dried lemon peel in the aftertaste... the bready and mild caramel flavors seem absent, muted here... mild hop bitterness, very little perception of sweetness

M: appropriately medium-bodied, vaguely chewy, with a fantastically leveled dry finish... despite the excellent head stand, this seems a tad flat - maybe a tickle in the finish, but not much

O: I've had this on tap and it was revelatory, one of the best - this seems like an old bottle... where that draft version was exploding with layers of doughy and mashed banana flavors, this is drying out and sort of dull, a shadow of its bad, fresh self... gotta find a better bottle, come back with (the appropriate) higher marks

I was craving a hefeweizen after work today and decided to try this one. I'm glad I did.

Bottle poured into my trusty Flying Saucer pint glass.

Pours a cloudy bright orange with a two-finger, frothy white head, which dissipates slowly with almost no lacing. Strong carbonation.

Smell is BIG banana esthers and clove followed by lemon tart. Not as bready as other hefes I've tried. Quite inviting in this hot weather.

Taste is crisp oranges and fleshy lemons followed by cloves and light banana. Finish is slight bready with crisp citrus. Not a "banana bomb."

Mouthfeel is very smooth and creamy with decent thickness.

Overall, this is one of the better hefeweizens I've had since coming back from Germany. Highly recommended and will buy again.

Poured from the swing top bottle into a wheat ale glass.

Big fluffy and uniform creamy off white and vanilla yellow, eggy looking head. Cloudy and deep rusted bronze body and fairly opaque if a little hazy. Creamy retention slowly settling, can't see much carbonation through the glass since it's quite dark for a body color.

I am loving this nose. Big fruity esters, and spritzy wine like aromas. Hints of lemon, and spicy classic clove characters. Bready caramel and toffee sweetness round out, lots of hinting cinnamon, powdered sugar and toast. Really impressive.

With that angle coming, I thought I was in for something really unique. In the end we have just classic hefe. Palate fills with a bright fruited sense of lemon, then finishes with some good hinting banana. Lightly bodied on the palate, and minimal carbonated, but some of the lightness causes some of the malts to wash out.

Overall pretty neat one, but comes out like a classic in it's realm.
