Bottle. Roasty, malty, burnt caramel aroma with hints of vanilla, marzipan and slight alcohol. Clear amber/brown color with a thick tan head that lasted quite a while. Raisiny, malty, slightly sweet with some alcohol in flavor. Hop bitterness became apparent in aftertaste but was overshadowed up front. Effervescent with fine carbonation. Full bodied, almost chewy but not cloying. Medium finish with some alcohol apparent in aftertase along with bitterness and some sweetness. Big and complex but very well executed and well balanced.

Was pretty sure this was similar to Samichlaus which I consider the best lager in the world and one of the best beers I've had. That was also the beer that got me started in craft and extreme beers when an olde school Lager drinker (yes that's Yuengling Lager of course) years ago Googled "strongest lager in the world" ... So yes I knew I would like this.

Pours clear lots of bubbles shiny penny beautiful color, nicely carbonated, little head that doesn't hang around long, doesn't have to. Big malts aroma, notes of apples and pears, nutty and even a little mint. Aroma really hangs out for a good 1/2 hour after the bottle is done. Taste follows the aroma, very spicy but not annoyingly spicy, especially since I generally do not care for spiced beers. Very similar in look, smell and taste to world class Samichlaus. Great mouthfeel, alcohol is present but does not detract at all.

Wow what a treat this was. Grab couple more this weekend if still available at a very reasonable $3.50 per. Yesterday was an amazing lager day, I had this before dinner, Lager with Capone's excellent $.25 hot wings followed by a 16 oz Troegenator. You can really taste the similarities in all 3 beers, differing with the ABV of course. Someday I will have to do these 3 and a Samichlaus in ABV order. Going to Lagertown.

After the high ratings, I was really looking forward to this one. Wow was I disappointed. Smell was artificial bananas and some nuts, taste was straight rough alcohol. Not subtle at all, and there wasn't anything else there. Really wondering what happened here, Kulmbacher is now 0 for 2 in my book.

Pours clear copper, low white lacing, sticky.
Rich malty smell, caramelised biscuits, butter, hazelnuts, dried dark fruit and alcohol.
Sweet syrupy malts, with caramel and honey. Dry dates, apple, plums and mild citrus bring a nice fruitiness to the balance. Some floral notes too. Mild spice. German hoppy finish.
Alcohol is the star here. It isn't too subtle, but it fits well with the malts, creating a great cognac/brandy taste. (Almost) low carbonation, oily, perfect to sip.
Surprisingly good, thought this would be just a bad boozy beer, but it's actually quite a treat.

11.2 oz. bottle poured into a tall footed goblet. Paired with kielbasa, sauerkraut, and pierogies.

Pours a bright, clear, medium copper-brown with ruby highlights and one finger of cream-colored head that quickly disappears. Almost no lacing. Assuming that is due to age, as I suspect this has been on the shelf awhile. However, that doesn't seem to have affected the aroma. Ripe bananas, brown sugar, dark toast, and spiced rum get my taste buds excited.

The nose doesn't lie. Big sweet ripe fruit, dark bread, and a slight alcohol heat are most notable on the tongue. A caramel-maple candied apple comes to mind. There is enough earthy bitterness (think unsweetened black tea) to balance things out. The texture is full and creamy, and despite the apparent age there is just enough carbonation to keep things crisp.

Excellent doppelbock that is on the sweeter side with a complex array of flavors. The alcohol makes it a sipper for sure. Perfect for an after dinner drink, but I found it to pair quite well with a salty German dish like kielbasa and sauerkraut.
