Pours almost a black/brown color after I swirled the sediment in and the minimal head is tan, too dificult to seeany action.

Bready grain malt aroma with banana and bubblegum in the background.

Malty smooth taste of roasted grains, wheat, and barley malt with mild easters in the flavor.

Medium bodied, malty feel, with lively soft carbonation.

This is good, kind of plain and ok.

Boy the label is spot on on this one this truly in a black wheat ale,poured into a weizen glass a deep ebony with some reddish tint thru out a big blooming almond colored head atop.Soft fruit and chocolate mainly i the nose not alot of that clovey spice like you find in many of the style a hint of toastiness as well but its actually quite clean.More delicate than you might expect on the palate soft fruit tones with some wheat malt present with a lingering chocolate and smoke note.This is a delicate brew extremely easy to quaff but it wont knock your socks off flavor wise.

Appearance - This dunkles poured that beautiful dark cloudy brown in color that you come to expect from the style. The head was a half and half mix of white and black.

Smell - The rich yeast and dark toast were huge at the nose. The yeast especially exploded from the glass even when cold. I love that smell of great German yeast.

Taste - The yeast comes out at the taste as well. There's a slight metallic character that keeps this one from a powerful rating but the flavor profile is definitely solid. The bready toast from the nose backs off quite a bit at the taste, which I thought was a shame.

Mouthfeel - This light to medium-bodied weizen fell short of that magical mouthfeel but was well above its peers.

Drinkability - A good drinker that won't blow you away but is a definite step up from the many sub-par efforts at the style.

Thanks to Todd the beer guy at McKean and Charles for getting me to try this. I probably wouldn't have gotten it without his suggestion. A 500ml bottle poured into a pint glass, it was a very dark, almost black, beer with a medium head. The aroma was a little nondescript, mostly grain. The taste made up for the aroma, however. Sweet fruit, dark chocolate malt. Very pleasant. Bready in the mouth, very easy to drink.

The beer pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is full of wheat with some light chocolate and banana notes. I get some classic German yeast in the aroma as well. The flavor is full of chocolate and wheat. I don't get any banana or spice notes in the flavor. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A decent dunkelweizen but there are better ones out there.

16 oz. swing top bottle poured into a snifter.

Pours out almost black, shows a slight ruby color in the edges. A nice 2-3 fingers of light tan colored head off the pour that eventually fades to a thick retentive layer. A bit of lacing. Maybe cloudy, somewhat hard to tell cause of the dark color.

Predominately fruits, plums mostly, they come out nicely as it warms. Fruity esters

Sweet toasty, slightly dark bready malts. Plums with some fruity esters, maybe a bit of blueberry and chocolate. Finishes light with just a hint of tartness.

Light body, somewhat smooth and creamy.

A fairly decent beer, tastes authentic but not really a favorite style of mine.

A dark milk chocolate color highlighted with shades of ruby, under a foamy, creamy light tan cap consisting of zillions of tiny bubbles. Swirled and poured the last bit, considering the style, but instead of haze it threw chunks into the bottom of my glass.

Aroma is sweet plum meets cocoa with a mineral undercurrent. A mild wave of warmth reminds you it's an alcoholic beverage. Surprised, as it's a pretty low ABV, but it all works well enough.

Flavors are a combined effort from milk chocolate, banana, dark fruits, roasted grains, fluffy wheat, nuts, plus some mild sweet spices. Mellow toffee/alcohol mixture appears in the finish. Finish is a little plastic-y, not enough to threaten the enjoyment of the brew, but I definitely would have given the Taste a 4 had it not be there. Texture remains light, almost airy, holding enough prickly carbonation from keep it from seeming insubstantial.

A solid offering. Nothing mindblowing, but a good example of the style. Strikes me as a beer that would probably make people who say they "don't like dark beer" actually like dark beer.

Pours a very dark brown with a decent white head. Nose is banana yeast and dark malts. Taste follows with some banana flavor and a somewhate overbearing maltiness. spice profile is good, but a bit akward. Mouthfeel is pretty good, but nothing to be marveled at. Drikability is ok, but again nothing special. Overall, an OK dunk, but really kind of akward. I would say try it, but i wont be revisiting this one. Their weissbier is fantastic, but this one missed the mark for me.

Banana creamy beer, bold molasses and licorice.Good head. Malty sweet. Touch of choclate malt, some spices, tad roast in mid-sip.A change up on wheat beers and you can taste the German quality, but could not have every day. Picked up days ago at Belmont Party Supply.

In my ongoing quest to sample as many wheat beer variations as possible, I picked this one up yesterday and decided to give it a shot tonight. I poured this one from a 1 pint, .9-ounce bottle into my half-liter weizen glass.

A: The name is almost literally accurate -- this beer is nearly jet-black in color. I can faintly detect a hint of deep, dark brownish-red, but I kind of have to use my imagination to do so. As for the head, this one doesn't foam up nearly as easily as a standard hefeweizen, but a vigorous pour does produce a solid four-finger, meringue-like head that lingers for about a minute. After that, the beer exhibits a cream-/tan-colored cap that remains throughout drinking. Lacing is slightly below-average for a wheat beer. Visible chunks of light-colored yeast stick together and slowly sink to the bottom of my glass.

S: Doesn't smell like a wheat beer, frankly. There is a prevailing toasted/pleasantly burnt smell, blended with something chocolatey and a hint of yeasty bread. I like the smell of this one; I may like it more on a cold night.

T: Zero bitterness, possibly reflecting almost zero hops. Dominating flavors are chocolate, melba toast, coffee, and an earthy, iron-like accent note. Again, I really don't pick up any of the standard wheat beer flavors.

M: This is how I know I'm drinking a wheat beer: it has that familiar, light-but-substantial feel, with ample carbonation. I must note, though, that the carbonated "bite" of most weizens is not present; the carbonation here is fleeting on the tongue. The iron-y earthiness adds an unusual dimension.

D: Tough call. Not as eminently drinkable as many other wheat beers, but still refreshing and enjoyable. I think I'd prefer this beer with a substantial, hot meal, or by the fireplace in the winter. Ultimately, I think I will drink this one again, but it's not an instant favorite of mine.

Blackbier, the literal traslation from German. There is no mistaking this Bier for anything else. I am normally a fan of dark bier, and the one was very good, but the only thing is it really is black as night and it a bit more challenging for me to drink because of that. If you say the blacker the better, than buy this!!

500ml dark brown bottle without obvious freshness dating.

Pours clouded opaque dark brown with an inch or more of off-white foam, thick lace. Aroma is peppery cloves against banana bread. A bit lighter in the mouth, with more carbonation than expected. Flavor starts with more black pepper than cloves, with an odd burnt malt center that settles into a nicely drying banana and nut finish.

Worth trying, though the flavor profile is unusual for a dunkel weizen.

Swing-top bottle... very nice. America should really take a hint from the Germans and bring these back!

Fills lower tiers of my glass with a dark and murky brown thats almost pitch black once it settles in the glass. A large fluffy and dense cream colored head tops it nicely.

Aroma hints at toasted bread and grain upfront. Further exploration reveals the Weizen yeast withs its banana and bubble gum fruitiness and a moderate spice character.

A bit more roasty and toasty than your average Dunkelweizen, but tasty nonetheless. Some malty sweetness as well. Yeast character however plays a dominate role with a healthy dose esters and some clove like spice mixed in.

Mouthfeel is rather light and bubbly but finishes nicely. Overall, Kapuziner is a excellent authentic German weizen but it still leaves you wanting a bit more.

While the dark color was very appealing, the lack of a decent head lowered the appearance quality. Smell was not as malty as I expected. It was somewhat faint, yet still appealing. Taste was smoky, highly sweet with a slight astringent quality...very nice. Mouthfeel likewise was very good...a smooth yet dry quality was very nice on the palate. Drinkability was also very good...definitely could have another!

One of the new 500ml swing-top bottles. Pours black (no way!) with a thick light-beige head that leaves great lacing. Typical weizen character in the aroma, but augmented by a sharp, bitter roastiness that seems quite unusual. Light banana notes. Interesting, but not necessarily bad. Notes of carbon/graphite. Dry, roasty taste with the typical tangy yeast. Really interesting stuff. Medium, well-carbonated body. Though I'm a fan of the regular Kapuziner weisse, this one doesn't quite stand up. Interesting for sure, but not a favorite.

16.9 oz. Cloudy dark brown pour, a good two fingers of dark cream colored head.

Heavy wheat, rye in the aroma. Some clove and faint roast

Standard bread, banana and clove flavors. These are accompanied by some roast malt and cocoa. Just a hint of that bitter roast through the finish.

Almost creamy mouthfeel. Almost a milk like feeling. Very drinkable even with the cheweyness. No abv present at all.

Real good, drinkable brew. Solid, but still able to drink this on a seventy+ degree night.
