my favorite part of the post-holiday has to be walking into giant eagle and seeing an abundance of 5L german mini kegs!

A- comes out forcefully once tapped, so the head is big and rocky and white as snow. awfully wrinkly as it settles and bridges of lace are clinging to the sides of the glass as it slowly and reluctantly settles down. super ultra crazy clear golden body. i can see the wrinkles in my fingers through it. this seriously looks as good as any pils i've ever seen and if i remember correctly, my toppers are veltins and noble pils.

S- floral somewhat fruity apple and grape skin hops with a grassy earthy edge. almost smoky in a sort of way, or rather steamy, as if green things were being heated, think fresh grass and herbs on the fire. lemony kinda, with a mild citric twang. white bread and cracker malt hold things together.

T- a bit cardboardy in the taste from the malt, but the hops are bright and floral and fruity and the taste of white grape and green apple hits me immediately with a bit of pear. not overly bitter, the hops have more complex flavor than bitterness. grassy fruity and earthy, apple, cucumber, dill, maybe something like spinach?? with a bit of citrus. i don't think i've ever used spinach as a comparison but it really fits here. finishes with a great balance and mild bitterness.

MF- wholesome feel for a pils, but still light and bubbly enough to fit the style admirably. a little sweeter than most and not so dry, but the feel compels me to reach for the glass again and again.

D- this one is a solid B++ and i'm glad i have another 4.5 liters to go. something makes me wanna break out my 36oz spaten oktoberfest mug and tear this bitch up. i will not have a problem emptying this baby keg.

I bought a 5L mini keg as part of a closeout dead from Woodman's in Janesville, WI for $5.99.

Pours a clear copper color with a light, fluffy head. Scent is mild with grassy grains with yeasty earth tones. Taste is rather unusual at first but after a few sips I found the taste more to my liking. At first because of the grains it has an almost sour taste to it, but after a few sips you find a mellow citrus taste to it. An okay texture and volume to it, but a little too thin for my liking. A decent pilsner from Germany, but I prefer my American made pilsners instead.

A: straw yellow color with a not so big head that dissipates a little fast not leaving behind many traces on the glass, the body is light with not rich carbonation.

S: intense malty smell with hops character also, this one smells good for the style.

T: taste is center in hops spicy spirit over the barley malts.

M: it is a refreshing beer with a complex character more bitter than spicy but we'll mixed and a little dry ending with good lasting.

Appearance: Pours a crystal clear, pale straw yellow with a nice soapy head and good retention. A wonderful display of Kulmbach lace.

Smell: Clean, bready, cracker like yeast. Some Saaz hops are noticed.

Taste: Crisp, refreshing and light on the palate. Pale malt flavor, faint biscuit, spicy hop and clean lager finish. Pilsnerriffic.

Mouthfeel: Light, good sting of carbonation, spicy and drying hop lingers into the finish.

Overall: Very high drinkability, nice, mellow flavors with an assertive hop character. What else can you ask for in a pilsner? I wish that this were in my market, and if it weren't so obscure to the average drinker, it could be quite popular.

Poured a 3" white head. Clear straw yellow color. Smell is corn, grain, and malt. Taste is a step up from typical BMC pils but not an extreme standout. I have a high regard for this brewery, I think generally they're priced nice for an import, and none of the beers are bad, but this would have to be one of the more ordinary of their offerings.

Poured from the bottle into a pilsner style glass.

Giant head off the pour of big sticky white, nearly four fingers long. Head is very bubble bath and foamy in appearance. Stays for a good long time. Body is a pale light gold to straw yellow color and nicely clear. Tight bubbles of carbonation from the bottom. Very good looking beer.

A very muted but a sweet bouquet. At first it appears corn then is actually a kind of cherry. Clean somewhat arid, and hidden grain behind the smell.

First taste is surprisingly sweet getting almost into honey territory, but is that corn??? Some hop bitter but more of a faint bitter lemon finish and not sour lemon. Almost as if a lemon going bad. Lots of texture for this beer and not very crisp with a good body which is interesting.

Pretty easy drinking and enjoyable, taste could be much improved I think, but it will work.

.5L, best before 8/3/11.

Pours a clear yellow-gold with a decent eggshell head and above average lacing.

The aroma is fine, if a bit boring. Hay, grains, woody hops.

The flavor is dry and smooth. Not a lot going on here, but I like the fact that it is not sweet. Woody, herbal hop flavor, and a crisp, grainy lager body. The mouthfeel is very nice, with creamy, mellow carbonation.

You could do a lot worse than Kulmbacher Edelherb while in Germany. A solid, dry and quaffable pilsner.

i waited until the end of my six pack of this to review and im glad i did.
appearance really is quite nice, with a frothy pure white two finger head in my julius echter glass. it pours beautifully, with thousands of fine bubbles swirling all around the glass even after the pour is done.
ive never technically reviewed or analyzed a german pilsner before so i think that some of my descriptions may be off, but oh well. i think sweet grass in the middle of a sunny field. crisp, touch of sweetness, horse barn. i rather enjoy the smell, although its not one im used to, just dont drink alot of this style.
mouthfeel is smooth and creamy at first, but finishes off with a little tinge of bitterness, its a strange but welcome aspect. again i dont know if i feel like i should be chewing on grass or hay, but all i can think of is a farm, all the way through from smell to flavor.
god damn its just so drinkable. due to my nature of just always wanting to drink something new and different, i probably wont go back to it soon, but i thoroughly enjoyed drinking this. it makes me want to try more of the style so i can start to distinguish new flavors and aspects.

Well worn reused European 0.33L bottle - $2.09 at Hop City in Atlanta, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a clear, light yellow body with a sudsy, snow white head.

Smell: Simple nose, smelling of grainy Pils malt, suggesting cracker dough a bit, and zesty Continental hops.

Taste: Lightly maltiness yielding crackery hints and a firm graininess. Spicy, grassy noble hops with sufficient bitterness. The very faintest hint of lemon. Quickly drying on the back-half. Crisp mouthfeel with a lingering graininess.

Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Medium-plus, prickling carbonation.

Drinkability: Just throw it back. A quick, easy-going pils, and, though I'd perfer just a hair more maltiness, it does make for a light, refreshing beer.

Bought this beer in a German supermarket a fewe weeks ago. Kulmbacher is sold in a nice 0,5 liter bottle which gives the beer a bit extra attention.

Poured the beer in one of my Dutch beerglasses the beer shows a nice white head with very little carbonation.

The beer is as it should be for a German premium pilsener; a nice drinkable and fresh beer.

The smell is a to be expexted, there are light citruswaves and the hop is far away. The mouthfeel is normal, no negative tastes.

Poured into a Tucher pilsner glass.

A: Pours a golden champagneish color with 2 fingers of head. Lacing starts as the head slowly dissipates.

S: I really don't know how to describe that "pilsener" smell. Crisp, clean, and sharp sweet scent. White grapes maybe?

T: Tastes just as the smell described. Crisp and refreshing. Clean finish. Very nice example of a pilsener. Would be great on a hot summer day.

M: Very carbopnated and crisp. No real alcohol presence.

D: Got this in the beer of the month shipment. Would love more for summer days. Real easy and smooth drinker.

11.2 oz bottle of "malt liqour".

Pours with a bright white quickly dissipating head that looks like soapy bubbles, not good for a pils. On the other side, the color of the beer is spot on.

This one is maltier on the nose than most with herbal, medicinal hops.

The mouthfeel is the most noticeable thing of this brew, it is significantly fuller than most pilseners, and I like it. The taste of this one is also classic pilsener, the hops come out more in the taste though they are perfectly balanced with the malt.

The drinkability is up there, this is a classic German made pils.

Got this one in a BotM club shipment.

Poured into a pilsner: a transparent pale yellow, almost greenish. 3 fingers of head drops to a thin layer & leaves lacing. A few streams of big bubbles. Color's a little bit unappealing, but I like the carbonation.

Smells of dryish malt, like bread crust. A crisp hop bitterness, some musty smell. Semi-sweet white grape juice.

The aromatics carry through into the taste with slightly strong malt up front & some flinty & peppery notes in the finish. Sweetness builds with warming.

Mouthfeel's good, nice carbonation, nice snap & the end, light & refreshing body.

Well done, easy drinking. I can't say there's enough here to keep me entertained & wanting to come back for more than one, though. I guess it grow on me as it went -- I kept having to go back & increase my original ratings.

A-Light golden color..nice pillowy white head

S-Not real assertive...was hoping for more of a noble hop aroma...more grainy than anything,..not much for hops at all on the aroma.

T-Much better than the aroma...nice crisp malt flavors..breads and crackers...grainy...hops lend a floral characteristic to the taste and a zesty peppery dry kick to the finish.

M-Clean, crisp, perfect carbonation...

D-Wow..just drank two bottles of this way too quick....great session beer...I like the taste a lot but wish the aroma had a little more to it.

Picked up a rack of local beers during a recent trip to Berlin and this was one of them. Clear light yellow pour with quickly fading head and decent lacing. Typical German pilsner nose with a fairly strong hop presence. The taste is also pretty typical with a hint of toast, grass, and slightly metalic. It has a unique bitter herbal aftertaste that makes it quite interesting. Nice crisp dry finish. Decent session beer.

A pilsener just before christmas;

A: Once poured in my glass "Bayern Pilsener", has a bright golden color, lots of bubbles, the foamy head looks like a snowflake, very nice lacing;

S: Very clean, sweet malt, with herbal and grass hops;

T: Smoked and biscuity malt, and grass hops;

M: Clean, slightly salty, mild bitterness and light body;

D: Very easy to drink, very good pislener.

This is a very good, but not outstanding, German pilsner.

Bright, pale gold, it has a very big white head slowly shrinking to a thick foamy top. It leaves a little weak, foamy lace.

Aroma is a lot of bread, herbs, hay, hints of apple and mineral. It is clean and aromatic, a good German pilsner aroma.

Tatset is srong, fresh, full-bodied grain with a lot of herb , hints of green grass and bread. It starts balanced, leaning faintly to the sweet side, but finishes just slightly bitter with a lightler herbal bitterness that lingers after the finish with grainy sweetness and hint of lemon pulp.

Poured from Bottle into Imperial Pint glass.

Pours a clear golden with orange hues and a couple fingers of white bubbly head that remains a layer atop the glass that appears almost milky and consistent. The aroma is grassy hops and is accompanied by some yeast and nutty malt. The flavor is sweet, bready malt upfront with some nice earthy hop accents and finishes with a soft bitterness. Its light bodied and very effervescent and a touch watery. Its an okay beer but lacks many body and malt characterstics that I find desirable for my sessionable, drinkable brews.
