Pale and light is our classic, dry-finished EKU Pils with traditionally balanced hoppy aroma. The enjoyment of EKU Pils starts already in the pour and ends with the right glass. To unfold its fine hoppy aroma and form a nice head, EKU Pils is poured quickly in 2 to 3 minutes and served in a slender, tall, upwards tapering »chalice«. Often referred to also as a »little beer«, EKU Pils is enjoyed as an aperitif, in-between, or as the crowning finale before heading home. Bavarians call it a »Pfiff«.*

*The Germans call EKU Pils as a »Pfiff«, which means »whistle«. A »Pfiff« is a small quantity, in current use generally 200 milliliters.

tried this one on tap at the Collins bar in NY city. Poured light golden and clear. The head is quite white, lacing was minimal. Nose that I got was mostly of grass. This is a moderatly crisp and clean lager. highly quaffable and pleasant on the taste buds. German hops duly noted, as well as a note of rye. Versitile sessioner.

I drank this one at the motorhome park beside the Purkmistr Hotel and Brewery in Pilsen back in September 2023, having purchased it a few days earlier in Kulmbach, Germany.

L: Clear as a bell, golden yellow with a fluffy white head, Small amounts of slow-moving carbonation.

S: Light malt, earthy hops.

T: Very clean and balanced and nicely bitter with a good, earthy kick at the end.

M: Medium carbonation, smooth body.

O: This is the cheapest beer I've bought on my trip (the equivalent of $1.28AUD for 500ml - unheard-of pricing in Australia!) but it is a nice bitter change from some of the overly sweet pilsners and lagers I've encountered so far.

Cheers!

Pours clear light, classic pilsner gold. Not a whole lot on nose, taste is malt, grass and grain. Decent carbonation, big fluffy head. Nice, crisp feel. Decent pilsner.

July 2003: (5 liter mini-keg, ABV 4,9%). Moderate aroma of hay, light golden colour, enormous head when poured from the mini-keg - like the head of a weissbier. Clean crisp flavour, good bitterness makes this a better-than-average pilsener. The mini-keg is great for parties!

Clear, bright gold body; excellent carbonation; thick and velvety white head. Intriguing aroma, like some kind of herbal sweetbread; honey. The taste has a mildly sweet, pear-like sweetness to it with a light hop bitterness; light honey. Nearly medium feel in body; sweet character in the feel; dry overall but with a slight juiciness.

I like this beer in many ways, yet it also seems a bit thick and overly sweet for a German pilsner. The looks and smell are the highlights. A fine beer just short of being great.

Solid one finger head throughout. Yellow tinged with green body. Smell of hay and yeast. Taste is a sharp initial bitterness of noble hop that quickly subsides leaving a lasting slight bitter dryness. Body is thin and watery. (Not a bad thing. This is a drink not a meal!). Slight lemony aftertaste comes through right at the end. This is very solid stuff and very balanced. Could drink 5 in one go.

Pours golden yellow with a 1 inch white head. Heavy lacing.

Aroma is Malty, bready, yeasty, slight floral.

Taste is malty, bready, tangy, a bit spicy.

Light bodied, lively carbonation. dry finish.

One of the best pilsners I've had. The Germans know how to do it!

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden amber color with a small fizzy white head. The head fades fast leaving just a trace of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is heaviest of a grainy smell mixed with aromas of some light fruit smells as well as a touch of hay.
Taste – The taste begins with a caramel sweet and grainy bread taste that is mixed with some flavors of a light herbal hop. As the taste advances the caramel becomes slightly more pronounced and is joined by a very light harvest fruit taste. At the end a little bit of hay joins the flavor profile and with a slight increase in the herb one is left with a sweeter pils taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is light and crisp with a carbonation level that is rather average. For the style and the tastes the feel is good and makes for an easy drinker.
Overall – A nice easy drinking and refreshing pils with a good level of flavor.

On tap at Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a golden yellow color, clear and inviting, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like grassy hops, a light malt sweetness, flowers, and light lemon.

This is basically exactly what you'd expect for the style. It's got a light hoppiness, maybe not quite as much of a bite as I'd want, with a lightly sweet malty and bready sweetness. It's simple, but that's what you want for the style.

This is light bodied, crisp, and very clean, with no off-flavors. It's very drinkable.

This isn't the absolute best imported German pils, but it's still worth a try and a great pour.

I like the classy bottle label artwork, great use of color. The pour is straw colored but the carbonation is not a bubbly as I expected it to be. There is no date on the bottle just a long number code on the back of the bottle label. The taste is faintly floral, bready, malty, sweet, grainy, minor caramel note, with a semi dry finish. It's a decent German Pilsner but I like the Ayinger better. Cheers! B-
