Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a shaker pint glass.
A: Hazy, light golden-amber with over one finger of persistent, craggy, eggshell-colored foam head. Moderate lacing remains on the glass. Some yeast sediment is noticeable at the bottom of the glass.
S: Bright citrus and toasted grain, with lesser amounts of tropical fruit and honey.
T: Begins dry, with floral and citrus hop aromatics, restrained bready yeast, and a burst of bright acidity that compliments the hops. Robust pale malt emerges in the middle, very toasty, as acidity fades. The finish is moderately bitter, retaining the toasted character.
M: Thin to medium viscosity, smoothness on the palate seems compromised somewhat by the acidity, with moderate carbonation.
D: This pale ale displays ample attractive qualities, with bright, refreshing aromatics and malt that is clean and delicious. A compromise occurs with regard to the acidity, where its presence enhances the intensity of the other bright flavors at the cost of greater smoothness. It is characterful and memorable, with a boldness that is at IPA-level in some respects. It reminds of other full-flavored pales that feature West-Coast hops, such as Marin's Mt. Tam or Strand's pale ale.
