Notes/Commercial Description:
Howling Wolf Weisse Bier is an unfiltered Bavarian-style Hefeweizen. Brewed with a hearty amount of wheat, this Weissbier pours a light clouded golden color with a generous head. Gently hopped to balance the malt sweetness, Howling Wolf’s flavors and aromas are subtle with a hint of fruit and spice. At 5% alcohol by volume, this light-bodied ale is a refreshing session beer for any time of year.

Scored this at MacaDoodles in Joplin. MO.

Pours a hazed honey color with4 fingers of ivory colored head. Looks great in my Schneider Weisse glass! Superior lacing & good head retention

S: Cloves & breadyness in abundance, Banana peels once warm

T: Follows the nose, peppery & lemony hop notes as well up front. Dryness, breadyness, cloves, green banana & juicy fruit as this warms. Finishes bready, dry with a slight mineral edge, plus more cloves

MF: Medium bodied & creamy

Drinks extremely easy, as good as any German Hefe I've had. Highly recommended!

Reviewed during the last week when out of service area/Wifi in WY/UT. Full phone notes taken at the Watchman Campground, Zion National Park, UT.

A- Poured from the bottle to a goblet with a golden body that is hazy and on the deeper end of that hue. A white cap with a fizzy texture rises but falls fairly fast to a small ring.

S- Yeast whafts out of the glass with fruity character. Slightly tart citrus zest, banana, pear, pepper, clove and cardamom come to mind for me. A light vanilla sweets hint.

T- Yeast driven as was the case in the aroma. The main theme of the brew is spice and fruits with a noticeable portion of crusty wheat grain. Apple, pear, slight banana, clove, lemon peel and cracked Pils grain.

MF- Light thickness but very piffy with even the slightest agitation. Carbonation is foamy and at a fairly high level. Spicy yeasty finish.

Loads of yeast character supported by plenty of wheat and light base grains. The yeast is a bit out of check but still smooth enough to be plenty refreshing and enjoyable.

This is one of the better American Weiss biers I have tasted so far, with the major brands producing poor substitutes. The Howling Woolf is smooth with a lemon rind aftertaste, also it is zesty, like a tart. It finishes with a sweet stinging sensation which reverberates around your tongue. Tempting you howl out for more.

From a sampler case I picked up at Fred Meyer.

A- Hazy orange color with a 2 finger head. Light lacing.

S- Classic Heffe smell, Belgian yeas spice, breadiness

T- More of the smell slight clove, coriander and pepper, light wheat flavor, some tartness in the middle.

M- Light body with some carbonation bite. Refreshing beer.

O- Overall a good beer. Heffes tend not to be my go-to style, but this is a nice lighter change of pace from my normal styles.
