Enjoyed on-cask @ the Grand Teton Brewing Co in Victor, ID for $3.75. Tapped from the Firkin into a 16oz Teton Ale Pint Glass. The Snarling Badger is going to be a Berliner Weisse (in style) when it comes out May 2012, but since this is infused with fruits, I'm going to have to classify it as a Fruit Beer.
Aroma- Starts with a HUGE citrus aroma and then has a lemon twist character that hits hard. Tons of sweetness and malt are found here too. Awesome!
Appearance- Received with a .5 finger, bubbly head that has great retention. Has a dark copper, glowing orange body with tons of depth. Leaves a few suds behind.
Flavor- The sweetness and malt hit hard upfront with tons of light orange/grapefruit character. The end of the drink includes fruit and a light, crisp bitter finish.
Mouthfeel- Light Bodied, Medium Carbonation, Smooth and semi-dry, and then leaves TONS of citrus behind on the palate. Whew, what a nicely infused brew!
Overall Impression- Once the “real” Snarling Badger hits, I’m hoping for more sour and clean notes with a easy going, wheaty background. With the orange and lemongrass added, this changed the style by a ton but didn’t mind. I’ll still classify this as a Fruit Beer for these reasons. Grand Teton did it again, produced an Awesome brew! HIGHLY recommend this if you are able to stop by the brewery (since only available in-cask offering).
