Poured into a snifter at 50 degree. A nice one finger head light tan head with poor retention. The the body of the beer is a dark brown color with ruby highlights. The head dissolved into a ring around the glass. The ring has some carbonation bubbles.
A big malty brew with caramel, toasted malt, yeast, bread, citrus, floral, earthy, and some toffee.
A very rich malty brew with caramel, toasted malt, bread, biscuits, floral, perfume, toffee, and earth .
The mouthfeel of the beer carbonated chewy and slightly warming.
This a decent barleywine. Usually barleywine that have aged are more harmonized with flavors this is still all over the place. The beer lacks finesse, of much better Barleywine. It is good but that is just it.

750ml. Had at Helen's on Christmas. I really enjoyed it. It was thick and creamy, not quite but almost too sweet. It had a wonderful caramel color.

22 oz. bottle, with OCT 22, 2012 printed on the tied on booklet. Vintage 2012. After eyeing this beer for the past year, I figured now was as good a time as any to give it a try.
Poured into a clear balloon snifter.
A - Pours a bright hazed burnt orange colored body with some brown highlights when held to the light. Two fingers of fluffy khaki head. Good lacing. Looks very nice.
S - The nose is very pleasant. Sweet caramel / amber malt, alcohol fumes, grapefruit, citrus, pine, brown bread, brown sugar, green apple yeast esters, orange marmalade, hint of banana, some soapiness, some creaminess, and some peppery rye.
T - Ah yes, absolutely delicious. Creamy sticky caramel / taffy covered green apples, caramel malt / amber malt / candied crystal malt, alcohol heat, brown bread, brown sugar, molasses, twiggy earthiness, white sugar, tea leaves, and faded citric grapefruit / pine hop bitterness.
M - Goes down smooth and creamy, with lots of sticky sugars and hop bitterness lingering on the palate. Warming alcohol on the finish.
Overall, I'd say this beer has held up nicely, but the alcohol is still apparent, so perhaps another year or so might do it some more good. Delicious.

October 22 2012 stamped on the bottle tag.
Crystal clear, copper-colored body with a thick, sticky, tightly foamed head. Caramel, caramel, and more caramel with the smell. Big malt flavor (caramel again!) with a fruity, tangy sweetness swelling in as you savor the flavors. Heavy body.
I didn't catch any piney hop smell as the tag listed, but then, after being more than a year old, I suppose you wouldn't consider this beer 'fresh'. Still, this beer presents a huge malt presence with plenty of dark fruit-like esters and a well-played background touch of booze to nicely balance things out. What hop presence there is slowly introduces itself late into the finish. All in all, an outstanding barley wine.
