Served from tap into a sampler shaker. Poured red-orange with a half finger slightly off-white head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, caramel, wood, earth, earth hop, and caramel hop. The flavor was of sweet malt, caramel, dark fruit, fruit, alcohol, and wood. It had a medium feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall this was a decent brew. There was quite a bit going on in this one which is always welcomed, however, there were some aspects that just felt a little out of place once I picked up on them. Take the wood for instance. While it was there I do not feel that it was really needed as it just added another component to an already decent backbone on the brew. This might have helped to balance it a little more, but I guess I will never know. Worth your time trying at least once to judge for yourself.

A - dark orangish amber with a little white that has good retention

S - citrus, bread, alcohol, sweet, caramel

T - caramel, birthday cake, citrus, grapefruit, bread, sugar

M - medium bodied, smooth well carbonated

This was delicious. It blurs the lines between DIPA and Barleywine with it's intense hop character. There's just enough sugary sweetness to remind you of the style. The citrusy hop character was fantastic and the malt wasn't cloying. The balance here was superb. The alcohol for the most part was also well hidden. I very much enjoyed this beer.

750 ml bottle, bottled on 10/18/12. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a dark reddish/copper color with about an inch light tan head that stayed around for a little while. There's a good amount of lacing. The brew smells like toffee, dark fruit, sweet spices, and some light citrusy and pine hops. It tastes like toffee, brown sugar, figs, bready malt, citrusy (grapefruit) and pine hops. The bitterness comes out more as the beer warms. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's creamy and coating with moderate carbonation. I think it's a solid beer, I liked it. Not sure if I should have drank this fresher or aged it longer!

Picked up tonight at the COOP for $11ish... Pours a slightly hazed deep amber.... light tan head doesn't stick around for too long but leaves good spotty lacing.

Nose is appropriate for the style... a pretty good dose piney hops with a floral undertone... quite rounded malt with some nice caramel and dry dark toast essence.

Flavor has all the same elements but with a nice fresh bitter bite that balances the coming malts... malts are on the sweet side, but not out of style by any means... Hop flavors are pine/floral/lesser citrus... but the hops are pretty tame on the palate for an American BW. Some minor raisin with warmth... and something that I associate with apricots on the finish.

Good body and a sorta light carbonation lends to a creamy mouthfeel... I expect the carbonation to get more pronounced with age as the bottle conditioning kicks things up a notch.

I will definitely be buying some of these for future enjoyment.

My Idaho peeps get a good nod for this one.

3.5/4/4/4/4.5

Edit... This is very drinkable right now... While I will personally cellar a few bottles, I suggest not putting them in the basement and forgetting about them. The hops are about perfect right now, and will only get worse with time.

I hoped for a more aggressive hop profile out of the gate to allow things to meld over time.

22 oz. bottle, with OCT 22, 2012 printed on the tied on booklet. Vintage 2012. After eyeing this beer for the past year, I figured now was as good a time as any to give it a try.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours a bright hazed burnt orange colored body with some brown highlights when held to the light. Two fingers of fluffy khaki head. Good lacing. Looks very nice.

S - The nose is very pleasant. Sweet caramel / amber malt, alcohol fumes, grapefruit, citrus, pine, brown bread, brown sugar, green apple yeast esters, orange marmalade, hint of banana, some soapiness, some creaminess, and some peppery rye.

T - Ah yes, absolutely delicious. Creamy sticky caramel / taffy covered green apples, caramel malt / amber malt / candied crystal malt, alcohol heat, brown bread, brown sugar, molasses, twiggy earthiness, white sugar, tea leaves, and faded citric grapefruit / pine hop bitterness.

M - Goes down smooth and creamy, with lots of sticky sugars and hop bitterness lingering on the palate. Warming alcohol on the finish.

Overall, I'd say this beer has held up nicely, but the alcohol is still apparent, so perhaps another year or so might do it some more good. Delicious.

A: pours a reddish brown with a half finger of off white head that is quick to fade to a collar around the edge of the snifter
S: smells of citrus, pine and caramel malt
T: semi assertive piney hops up front with a good bit of the malt backbone coming through with some nice caramel flavors, a bit of citrus as well. solid balance and good flavors. swallow brings some more sweet citrus, caramel and pine
M: full and slightly thick and syrupy with soft and light carbonation. interesting finish is a bit drying but also slightly oily and sticky
O: overall this is a really solid beer. very drinkable fresh with some nice and assertive hops that aren't abrasive on the palate and very good balance that almost leans toward the sweet and malty side
