Dropped by on the afternoon on Monday, Feb. 17...

When we walked into the cramped taproom, we were greeted with an odd smell akin to a boys' locker room (feet, sweat, etc.). In addition, there was an employee lunch that took up almost the entire space. I unintentionally overhead the employees loudly talking trash about how "rude" the brewers are at Snake River -- which was extremely off-putting, especially as Snake River brews superior beer, in my opinion, and I've had nothing but good experiences with them.

There was only one bartender -- who was working her ass off, as there were many patrons sitting outside and ordering flights -- and it took us a while to receive service. When we did get her attention, she did an excellent job telling us about each beer and getting our flights ready without seeming irritated (which a bartender might be after pouring ten consecutive flights). Whoever you were, you were awesome!

Unfortunately, the beer was wildly hit-and-miss. The Barrel-Aged Splash Down was a stellar Belgian sour with refreshingly tart notes of green apple, and the 5'o Clock Shadow was a dense, tasty black lager with notes of burnt toast and almond. Unfortunately, the other beers didn't fair so well. The Sweetgrass APA was unbalanced and bitter without any notable flavors, and the imperial stout on nitro ... well, we described it as burnt Guinness in a dirty bathtub. Probably the worst stout I've ever tasted.

(However, I've had the bottles of the APA and it is very good, and I've heard excellent things about the Cauldroun imperial stout. But a taproom is where a brewery should theoretically pour the best version of their beers, so ... what gives?)

Overall, I'd like to think we caught Grand Teton on an off-day; perhaps their taproom is more welcoming in the busier summer months, and more effort is put into a quality product. But on this day, I came away feeling like Grand Teton is a distribution-first facility that doesn't stake their reputation on their taproom.

Did a flight and beers were good but not great with exclusion of the stout which was exemplary. Tap room was nice, modern, but congested. Service was great, tour was interesting, no food present. Might stop back again if in area, but prefer other options in area.

Atmosphere - There is a very small tasting room and gift shop in the front of the brewery, the real winner though is the view of the Tetons from the porch. I could not think of a better place to sit and have a beer.

Quality: Top notch, the brewery site is a half mile from glacial spring water, sprawling miles of barley are grown in the fields and farms around, the brewery and local Idaho hops are used. The beer in the tap room is about as fresh as you can get.

Service: I ordered one flight from a very friendly and knowledgeable bartender and Rob Mullins gave us an excellent tour of his brewing process.

Selection: Every beer on my flight was spot on to style. Sweetgrass APA and the Nitro Stout were the standouts

Food: None, but they do have free popcorn.

Value: Fairly priced, especially considering they are just over the mountain from high priced tourist places in Jackson Hole.

This was stop #35 for my wife and I on a 21-day pub-crawl from Michigan to N. CA and OR. We stopped here on a Wednesday evening to enjoy their beers and the view. We had heard about this place from friends, so we detoured about 100 miles to come here (and to Jackson Hole since it’s just across the mountain). The brewery is located in a pole barn structure that has a porch at one end that has a killer view of the mountains.

We ordered a sampler flight of 5 of the 10 that were on tap that day, and promptly grabbed a seat on the porch. It would have been nice to have samples of the rest of the beers but we had a mountainous drive ahead of us to get to our hotel. Each of the beers was very tasty and we rated all of them with a B or A grade. (This brewery’s overall beer score came out to be #2 out of the 41 breweries that we visited on our trip.) There is no food other than popcorn available here, so no points are in the review for that category. (There was a food truck parked there but it was not open for business, and we didn’t find out its hours of operation.)

We fell in love with the beer and the view, and definitely would detour from any reasonably close itinerary to come here again.

Very small tasting room at the brewery, friendly staff. Have all their beers there for sale as well as all their gear. Open from 11am to 9pm or so as of my last visit. Have a solid beer line up I rank 3.75 overall, just below outstanding. I am not a soda drinker but they also have an OUTSTANDING line of soda pop that they make as well as sell there. It is to dye for soda, the black cherry is just insanely good!!!!I have one one once and a while because it is so damn good! Free popcorn as well!

Stopped in on our way through the Tetons and Yellowstone. The place is very unassuming and is in a town of 2000. Not where you would expect to find great beer. Smaller taproom with about eight different brews on tap/cask. These guys are very underrated for their beers. I think all of them are very good and some of them are even better than that. They had bottles to go also that were very reasonably priced. Some glasses and openers for sale also. The guy working was very passionate about the area and his job. Very nice and helpful. Stop by if in the area.
