Pours hazy orange with a nice two finger fluffy white head. It keeps popping away leaving a nice small white cap, lots of traces on the class afterwards.
Lots of pine, with a caramel malt backbone. Lime, pineapple, unripe mango, grapefruit and tangerines follow. Nice show of hops, at least in the smell.
Taste starts citrusy, lots of lemon, some sweet tangerines, some peach, some tropical notes, overall a nice fruitiness that pairs well with the mild caramel maltiness. A kick of pine follows, spicy hops that build up a strong bitterness (some bitter citrus peel helps), not overbearing tho. Dry finish, big hoppy aftertaste.
Medium body, somewhat smooth, with medium carbonation. Dry finish and aftertaste, lots of green hoppiness, hides the alcohol nicely.
Not a complete hop bomb, nicely balanced, tasty, easy to drink. Wouldn't mind having some more of this!

I travelled to San Diego for the first time since the 80's just last week, and upon learning of their growing craft brewery culture, I had to experience it once I was down there.

I had this on tap at the Karl Strauss brewery in Downtown SD and very much enjoyed it. It was very similar to other IPAs I've had over the years, and that's a good thing, as it featured all the aspects I like: it was clean, crisp, was nicely hopped but very flavourful as well.

If I were in the San Diego area I would look this one up again, definitely.

On tap at Karl strauss temecula. Pours a clear very light copper, more on the yellow end of the spectrum. Nice big head And lacing that sticks around the whole ride through.

Lots of citrus in the aroma, hop forward.

Taste is citrus hops, very nice balance of bitterness in this one. Definitely easy to drink and sessionable. Slight caramel and a bready hint in the back end. Delicious.

Surprised at the relatively low rating on here. Definitely a decent brew. I'll surely be having this one again.

Another IPA from the city of IPA's. 22 ounce bottle, on to the beer:

Forms beautifully in my New Belgium globe. It is an amber reddish color, shiny like a diamond, leaving a long lasting, thick head on top. Like its San Diego siblings, the nose is not to dissapoint. Medium on the hops are far as IPA's go. A bit of crystal malt and passionfruit sit underneath. Citrusy.

Hoppy tasting? Yes it is. The base malts work bread into the overall flavor. There are notes of pine and hemp, giving this beer an interesting zip. With certainty, the hops are the star of the show (like you didn't see that coming), adding passionfruit and grapefruit. A little resiny. Not a bad feel in the mouth, just a touch thiner for it's size, but not bad.

Craft beer drinkers in San Diego live and breathe hops, and even with all the hoppy offerings, Tower 10 can hold its own against the others. It's the best Karl Strauss beer that I've seen in the bottle, so go for it if you see it.

On tap while killing time in LAX
Poured a reddish copper color almost like a penny.Nose is floral, citrus, pine and big malt. Taste is wow..good. I thought this was a chewy, malty IPA for a West Coast American style. Floral and pine notes with some citrus to. Mouthfeel is nice and good, went down well and I could have had a few of these but at $7 in the airport I passed.

Pours a chill-hazed medium orange with an off white head that melted quickly to just a thin covering with a bit of lace on the side. (possible use of a rinse aid when washing this glass).

Nose is a nice, bright citrus on the orange and tangerine side with some malt sweetness. Clean and refreshing.

Mouthfeel is creamy with lots of tiny carbonation pretty typical for the style when brewed right. I've been drinking mostly Kolsch and Milds this summer so the carbonation was a bit of a surprise but it is where it should be for an IPA.

The mildly sweet malts are balanced very nicely by the hop additons. Again, a little orange, a little tangerine, and now grapefruit.

A quickly drying aftertaste of bitter grapefruit peel follows the swallow and you begin to feel the heat of the alcohol about 1/3 of the way through a glass.

In all, a wonderful IPA to get your feet (and tongue) wet with and just perfect for me after a long summer of more traditional summer type beers.

Second of two IPAs I had at the brewery restaurant in Sorrento Mesa (the first being the Double IPA). The better of the two, in my opinion.

Slightly darker than golden with little noticeable carbonation. It had no signs of haze, pouring crystal clear. Unfortunately, it was poured with no head and served too cold (just like the one before). After letting it warm a bit, there was more distinct citrus tones to the hopping, both in aroma and taste. Medium mouthfeel, it had a pleasant bitter finish. Would have been worth of a second, if I hadn't eaten so much.

A- Pours a deep, cloudy orange hue with a 1.5 finger, frothy head that fades with quite a bit of lacing.

S- Very grainy, caramel, slight hints of grassiness.

T- Starts off very bready which leads into a wave of hops and a nice, crisp, bitter finish.

M- Medium bodied with plenty of carbonation.

D- A refreshing IPA. Doesn't stand out a whole lot but I would revisit.

Pale orange, slightly hazy, it has a small off-white, creamy head very slowly shrinking to a thin thin and a hint of lace.

Aroma is light grapefruit, pine, candied citrus, caramelly honeyed bread. It is very west coast, but pretty good and well-rounded.

Taste is juicy but dryish, with citrus pine, light toasty bread, juicy, yeasty, minerally, with light sweetness and balancing firm bitterness. It is mostly citrusy pine hop underneath a minerally-yeasty character with the elements all light but firm and well-integrated and balanced. It is well rounded. Although not overly flavourful or complex, and somewhat subdued, it is nicely rounded, clean, well-integrated, and very drinkable, a very good, solid IPA.

Big whitish head, slowly dies above a copper golden colored IPA leaving a pretty nice lacing throughout the drinking of 12 ounces of this.

Welcoming fresh pine, grass, and citrus hops blended aroma, a very nice scent to this IPA.

Citrus hops, light oranges and slight lemon, and some mountain pine to the taste, that doesn't quite live up to the west coast hops taste I was expecting, but is a decent beer in and of itself.

A medium bodied beer that finishes with little bitter hops aftertaste.

A very nice aroma kinda lost on a medium taste, more of an IPA that I experienced in North Carolina and not what I love about drinking IPA's in Portland.

Pours amber with a lasting head.
Nose shows fruity and floral hops. Orange blossom, peach, apricot all show, along with a fruity confectionery note.
Similar flavours: sweet, confectionery-like fruit, sweet clean malt and a bite of alcohol amongst the assertive bitterness in the finish.
Carbonation seems excessive.

On Tap at the La Jolla, Strauss Brewery
A: Pours a golden/copper with a thin white head (by the time the server dropped it off at the table) nice lacing throughout the pint.
S: Piney, floral and a little earthy hop aromas with a bready malt base
T: Similar to the smell, mostly piney hops with a good hop base
M: medium body with a moderate level of carbonation
D: Well built American IPA, more of a balance between the hop bitterness and the malt base, so this is not the typical west coast IPA

Look when poured into a glass is a hazy orange. Not much lacing but a decent head. Smell is pretty good... kind of sweet, mixed with pine and a mild lemon smell. I find the nose to be pretty appetizing. Taste is mellow... not a hit you over the head IPA but actually good and drinkable, with not much bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel is smooth, not over carbonated but not too flat. Overall a pretty good beer.

Appearance: nice amber hue

Smell: boasts a moderately resinous hop aroma. Hints of pine and other aromas typical of pacific north west hops

Taste: nice hop bite. Subtle hints of citrus with a more dominating pine like taste

Drink ability: drinkable. Not my favorite ipa, however, one that I wouldn't hesitate to order again

Overall: pretty solid. if your're looking for a kick-ass ipa from this company, i would highly recommend big barrel double ipa. if u can get ur mittens on it

A: Poured a golden, copper in color with a ton of frothy, white head atop. Lots of lacing around the edges of your glass as you drink this one down. Carbonation looks good.

S: Floral and pine hops with a touch of soap and some sweet, breaded malts in the background. Bittersweet barley and grain aromas become more predominant as the brew warms.

T: Much more balanced on the palate than the nose lead me to believe, though the hops clearly shine here. Grapefruit citrus comes through as well as pine with bitter, floral notes and some grass and green tea. Didn't pick up any citrus in the aroma, but was glad to see it on the palate. A sweet, barley malt background helps keep the bitterness in check.

M: Medium bodied with ample carbonation with oil and some cream but a bit thin on the tongue. I could use a bit more chewiness, but it does keep it quite smooth and drinkable. A session-able IPA to be sure.

O: I enjoyed this one. Wasn't sure what to expect coming in, and I was a bit dismayed by the strong pine aroma but I was glad to see the citrus, barley, grass and green tea balance this one out nicely while allowing the hops to remain in the forefront. Definitely not one of the big players in the West Coast IPA scene, but still a very decent brew. Cheers!

Overall a really terrific ale.

A: Pours a deep unfiltered honey colour with a solid oatmeal colored head that provides nice lacing from top to bottom.

S: Lots of hops in this one

T: Deep rich flavours of nuts, bananas, molasses, and a slightly bitter finish. Much less bitter than Stone IPA.

M/D: Drinks down easily as an ale should. No heavy carbonation.
