473 mL can from the LCBO; packaged Oct. 15 2013. I've imbibed this one on a few occasions over the years, as I used to be an avid Sleeman drinker - but to be honest it has never really been one of my favourites. Served well-chilled.

Pours a bright, clear golden-yellow hue, generating nearly two fingers of puffy, soapy white head that fizzles away over the next minute or two. A thin cap and collar remain, with minimal lacing - this is a decent-looking macro ale. Unfortunately, it doesn't smell very good, with only some pale, grainy malts and corny notes to speak of. Not even a whiff of hops.

This isn't an interesting beer, but I'll be fair and admit that it's quite clean-tasting for what it is. Pale grain malts provide much of the flavour, although corn husk sweetness is also detectable. Mildly grassy toward the finish, with a pleasant dryness that is probably this one's saving grace. Light-bodied and pretty watery, with fizzy carbonation a few steps softer than most macro lagers. Quite quaffable in large quantities, and obviously brewed with that intent.

Final Grade: 3.25, a C+. Sleeman Cream Ale is a boring, utilitarian macro ale. I will drink this again at some point, but it's never going to be something I consume regularly. I'm starting to appreciate this one more in my old age - I used to be a Honey Brown guy, but this one is far less cloyingly sweet, with a cleaner flavour than the Original Draught. A passable macro at a decent price point; I like to stock up on cans of this when it goes on sale, as it's something mundane that I can leave in the fridge and offer to visitors that prefer 'the regular stuff'.

Bottled from a Sleeman mix pack. 5%. A passable patio-macro beer and the price is right. Pale, clear, w/ a white head. Aroma is kind of corny/ vegetable-like. Has a light sweetness, light body, creamy, average carbonation. Inoffensive, but nothing worthy of real praise.
