Review from BeerAdvocate magazine Vol. II Issue X:

Hmm ... organic and naturally carbonated, no use of hop oils either. One could say this is a retro German Pils, as most of the mainstream Pilsners have resorted to more industrial-style techniques. We held back the last ounce or so of beer to ensure a clear pour, seeing the thin layer of sediment on the bottom of the bottle. Very clear, pale golden-yellow color, masterful work with the lacing as there are rings on the glass after each sip. Sweet grain smell, a light honey-like and grassy character, hops come off a little herbal and spicy, but stay soft in the aroma. The carbonation runs very deep and does not skip a sip with the sublime crispness. Right from the get-go, the malt and hops battle it out for dominance, and they end up calling a truce as both seem to meld middle to end. Extremely clean malt palate with a long-running graininess. Hops supply an even amount of bitterness, flavor goes from lemon oil to herbal to spicy. Clean and dry finish.

This is an amazing beer, and we hope will help teach the masses in the US what German beer is all about, or even to narrow it down a bit ... what Bavarian beer is all about. Pen this one in on your must-try list.

0.5L bottle from the source in Germany.

Crystal clear, pale, golden colored beer with a ton of carbonation activity, creating a creamy foam head w/ trailing lace.

Aroma is soft and pleasant with herbal hop characters, faint mint, lime pith, metallic, and edge of bready malt. Clean.

Light-bodied, crisp with a seltzer soda-like tingle on the palate, and refreshing. Creamy mouthfeel.

Nice smacking of lime upfront, touch of hop oil in the feel, herbal notes follow. Malts are subdued, offering a touch of sweetness and crackery grain to balance things out. Finish is dry with a residual hop presence, cereal grains, and hay.

Pure lager bliss. A most outstanding German Pils. And it's an organic / bio beer. Damn shame that this level of quality Pils is not widely available in the US.

Poured into a pilsner glass. Pours a hazy, light straw amber with a thin white head that dissipates to a ring around the glass. Aroma of sweet, bready and biscuit malt, light grassy hops and skunk; a big burst of skunk from the bottle, but blends with the the other nice pilsner smells in the glass. Flavor is similar to aroma, bready and biscuit malt, toast (actual bread toast, not toasted malt), a hint of lemon, grassy and floral hops; there is something else in here that reminds me of a bakery, like sesame seeds or unusual flour. Nicely melded. Light bodied with peppery carbonation. A very nice pilsner with both an unusual look (hazy and light) and some complex, unidentifiable flavors that seem perfectly balanced in the profile. Nicely done. What an incredible tragedy that the initial aroma and aftertaste are both skunky. If it is true as an earlier reviewer from Germany said that this comes in a brown bottle domestically, these guys need to fire their entire foreign export packaging team. Dang. Nice enough to make me really look for this fresh or properly packaged.

Pours a faintly chill hazed light golden color with a huge fluffy white head that persists well. .From a green bottle smelled a bit of skunk and sulfur when first opened, but really aired out well. Caramelized melanoid bready pilsner malt with a hint of spicy floral hops make for a wonderful lager aroma. The flavor is sweet sugary bready malty goodness with faint balancing hop flavor. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet watery mouthfeel. This is a pretty damn good pilsner. Light clean simple flavorful refreshing, I may buy more of this.

50cl bottle poured into Spaten seidel

BBE 30 Jan 2013

A- 4 finger tight white creamy head sits atop a straw blonde body with a bit of a hue. Lacing and head retention are very good. Mark off for clarity.

S- Earthy hop, peppery, some lemon in there too.

T- Lemon zestiness up front balanced by the more earthy hops and peppery notes coming through. Finish is lager clean with a subtle hint of earthy hop lingering.

M- Delicate on the palate. Medium carbonation, light body.

D- Looks and smells great. The flavour profile is excellent, i just would have liked the flavours to be slightly bolder, particularly the hop bite. Nevertheless, mouthfeel is faultless for me, so so easy to drink. A refreshing clean lager, if being pick just needs a bolder flavour intensity. Great stuff.

Four months before best before date - Brown Bottle 1/2 litre

Smell is bready and a little floral, not so strong.

Pours a pale pils yellow, with a nice big frothy head that fades with regular lacing.

Mouthfeel is very light, carbonation seems lowkey till you go to swallow, when you get an explosion with the full flavour of lemon-orange-marmalade hops. Taste goes from fine malt to lemon to bitter-orange-marmalade on the swallow - to malt again in the after-taste.

This is a lovely beer, and very drinkable - and with 4.7% alcohol, it's easy on the brain :p
very nice from the bottle too (I find with drinking pils from the bottle that you do miss out on some aspects of the beer but that it concentrates other aspects - especially the citrusy taste)

[edit] drinking this again, it has something almost perfumed about it. I couldnt put my finger on it, so I read the "Top Reviewers", nothing there, but Todd's review says "pale mint" and "Nice smacking of lime upfront" - both click for me. It's almost shocking if you've been drinking a 'regular' pils beforehand, and then you taste this one :-) [/edit]
