Originally brewed in 1984, Schell's Pils is a shining example of the true European Pilsner style beer. Brewed with 100 percent barley malt, where the Sterling Hop flavor is showcased. Its full hop characteristic and delicate aroma were developed in Pilsen, Bohemia around 1840. This style was widely copied by early American breweries. Over the years, however, it has been lost to the much lighter-bodied, low-hopped relatives we refer to as American "Premium Category" beer.

Schell's Pilsner
Appearance: Light straw in color with a chill haze. This is acceptable here. Soapy head forms and leaves a sheet of lacing. Very good looking pilsner beer.
Smell: Grassy hops, bready malts.
Taste: Pretty much mimics an imported German pilsner. Tea like hops on a light bready malt body. Herbal and light citrus. Crisp. Alittle earthy.
Mouthfeel: Light bodied, smooth, crisp.
Drinkability: A nice no frills pils. Very true to the style. I can dig it.

Schell's Pils, 5.3% ABV. Pours pale golden, with a 1+ finger white foamy head that left decent lacing. Nose is malty. Taste is moderate bitter hops, slight sweetness. OK mouthfeel, overall OKish. Wasn't expecting much here, this was part of a sampler I bought solely for the Sahti in the pack that I needed as one of my last styles to try. Figured, what the hey, may as well try it. I'd take this over a Bud.

Pours straw yellow with fluffy white head.
The aroma is bready with a slight citrus and herbal hop note.
The flavor is sweet bready malts, a graininess that is similar to an adjunct lager and a sharp hop bite on the finish. The hoppiness is more floral and perfumey than anything.
The mouthfeel is medium with a very pleasant carbonation.
Overall it's okay, there are better Pilsners, but it's cheap and good.

Bready aroma, some spice. Brilliant light gold color, tall white, thick head, with moderate level of rising bubbles. Nice looking pils. Moderate feel. Mild and smooth initial taste: bread and spice, with a good level of bittering coming along in the middle, finish and aftertaste. Clean finish.

Pours a bright gold color - completely clear and mildly effervescent. Thick velvety white head dissipates slowly but not completely. Rings of white lacing are left on the glass.
Smell has light notes of grain, bread, lemongrass, and grassy hops.
Taste follows the nose with notes of grain, grass, lemongrass, and some light bread notes. Moderately bitter on the finish with a slight metallic like flavor.
Feel is light and drinkable. Somewhat dry on the finish.
Overall an alright pilsner - there are much better examples out there.
