Poured from the 12 oz. 30th Anniv. bottle into a weizen glass.

Pours a lovely, cloudy light orange with a nice dense head of creamy foam that leaves lacing all the way down the glass.

The aroma is delightful and potent: Lots of clove and banana.

The taste begins with a little hop bitter not followed by lots of clove spiciness, a bit of ripe banana and then a nice, lingering hop bitter.

The mouthfeel is smooth and almost creamy.

Overall, a wonderful experiment from Schell's. I like the little bit of hop bitterness added to a weizen. Thoroughly enjoyed this beer.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Weizen glass.

Appearance: Cloudy yellow-orange with light off-white head.

Smell: Banana, clove, dry spiciness, slight tartness.

Taste: Banana, wheat and clove core, as expected, but not as much sweet bubblegum as seen in some examples of the style. There are some floral and tart grapefruit notes from the Triskel hops that I am surprised that other reviewers have not noted. This is actually pretty hoppy, but just a titch bitter.

Feel: Fairly full body with moderately high carbonation. Pretty dry finish.

Overall: Pretty dry and hoppy for a Weizenbock. This is certainly not typical of the style, but like the August's Bock they made last fall, I like the use of nontraditional hops in a traditional German beer. I hope the average goes up for this one, because I don't think many people get what was intended here.

Cloudy golden color with a large head that slowly settled to a thick cap. Moderate amount of lacing is left down the glass.

Not a very appealing aroma. Sort of astringent and metallic and raw wort. There are faint hints of clove and banana esters.

Flavor is better. A lot of wheat flavor with a little bit of a twang. The yeast did not really seem to perform in this beer as it tastes a little under attenuated. Sweet finish with low bitterness.

Semi full body with nice mellow carbonation. Rich and smooth texture.

Very underwhelmed with this beer. I know Schell's can produce a weizenbock, so not sure why this was not that good.

Thanks again to Matt for the bottles and the proper glassware.

Poured this into the Schell hex-base weisse glass. Slightly cloudy golden liquid, with a large fluff of white head that displayed good retention and lacing. Aroma was yeast-dominant, notes of banana and clove, as would be expected, toasted wheat, citrus zest. Taste was on the dull side, bland pale malts and toasted wheat, bready yeast, banana and clove, slight sugary sweetness, damp compost. Not too bad for the style, but I wasn't really feeling it. Seemed old. Light-medium body, a bit harsh in the mouthfeel. Not terrible, but I definitely wouldn't want anymore than a single serving.

Cloudy golden yellow with a white head that settles down but not out.
Soft enjoyable spiciness with banana with the wheat and a generic yeast aroma. Not outstanding but good.
Again a nice and soft spiciness with the banana and clove. This boy is chewy and it coats the teeth and tongue with a sticky goodness, and the clove lingers for a very long time. Shot of warmth in the gut, but this isn't an overly big beer but the mouthfeel makes it seem bigger than it is. Carbonation is nice too with soft fullness and a real enhancement to the experience.
The "bock" part of this is background and it presents as more of a bigger weizen and from that feels more summer like than winter like. Some hop presence with a green taste and feel in the finish and lingering. Soft fruit flavors show (eg. orange shows in time), but to me they are in the background to the spiciness of the yeast.

12oz bottle from the weiss sampler (and schells isn't craft beer...)

Smell is boozy bubblegum and dusty wheat. Taste is very similar, with some spicey hops and the bubblegum wheat. Medium carbonation.

Good experiment, it teeters between sublime and awful.

A large layer of creamy white head that fades to half a finger. Good retention with a bunch of sticky lace.

Flavor profile: Notes of bananas, cloves, lemon zest, citrus, caramel, and wheat with the first taste. It has a barley/cereal flavor in the background with light notes of chocolate.

Mouthfeel: Dry, but creamy. Light to medium bodied.

Overall, a lighter weizenbock in my opinion. Easy to drink and good for the summer. A bit dry for me, however.
