Appearance is clear brown with a frothy tan head. Very lively carbonation and good lacing. Aroma has wonderful smells of toasted malts, chocolate, toffee, fresh bread dough, and restrained flowery hops. Flavor has much the same goodness as the aroma along with restrained hop bitterness and flavor to allow all that yummy malt to shine. Medium mouthfeel and a semi-dry finish made this beer quite drinkable. I've had some German imports of the same style on tap before, but I could really taste the advantage of local freshness. Thanks Schell's. Keep em coming!

Clear, light, caramel brown, with crimson tints, small tan head, slims down to nil.

Sweet, caramel malt nose, a little grainy. Minor cocoa and cream.

Taste: clean and tasty. Just enough delicious malt, and very smooth. Real easy drinking, with enough flavor to keep the tongue happy.
I always like a good, solid dunkel, and this is one. Crisp, moderate carbonation, medium, sweet finish, little caramel/nut feel on the palate.

I seriously wish this would replace the Schell's Dark they have been trying so hard to promote. I guess cheap beer is that for a reason, but if you have to actually add quality ingredients to make a Schell beer that doesn't suck, please do!

Very refreshing, a lager I can drink over and over again. Can't really find a flaw. Keep up the good work, guys!

Had this on tap at Whistle Binkies. Poured a clear dark brown color with slight traces of orange coloring around the edges. Not much foam to speak of, and lacing was minimal. Smell was of some dark roasted malts and very small hints of berries. Taste was watery with a little bit of dry chocolate and roasted graininess mixed into one heap of not so great beer. Very thin, lightly carbonated. All around average and not much else. I would probably not have this one again, as it is a limited release, tap-only brew.

Pub 500 in Mankato.
Very clear. More brown than red. 1/2 off-white head that left after a few minutes.
Overall lacked any aroma of any distinction. My first impression was that it's similar to many Schell 's lagers in it's lack of any strong identity. It could have been influenced by the coldness of the temperature upon serving.
Nice malt character with out being overly strong or sweet. Considerable dryness on the tongue that lasted for the length between drinks easily. Mild bitterness without notable hop flavor. Tasty hints of toast, caramel and toffee.
Drinks quite easily and appropriately for a lager. Relatively smooth and moderate body for lighter lager style.
I wasn't knocked out. I kept thinking this is a more robust version of the Schell's Dark and I really desired a side by side comparison. Drinks nicely overall and while rich in a mild way it wouldn't be distracting to have a couple.
This is good, but I preferred #1.

Interesting and unusual beer. Latest installment on their new series. Quite dry. Well balanced, malty, lightly hopped, and drinkable. Poured with a nice fine head of off-white color. Reddish brown color. Plenty of lace. Malty, roasty nose. Medium body. Dece finish. A hint of a bite. Would be fun to know more about the history of this recipe. Looking forward to more beers in this lineup.

This is an excellent beer. Chocolate, hints of vanilla, caramel, nice hop aroma for this style. Good appearance and mouthfeel. It's all malt and you can get a little full after several, but still a good session beer. Had this on tap at a local bar (one of only 2 in Iowa) and just love it.

On tap an Whistle Binkies in Rochester. This beer is a clear brownish-amber color. The head is half an inch in height, whitish-tan in color, and recedes slowly into a quarter inch of lacing. The aroma is of caramel, toffee, cocoa, and floral hops. The taste is of toffee, caramel, and cocoa powder with floral hops balancing through out. The finish is of lingering molasses. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with lively carbonation, and a velvety texture. Overall, this is a great beer. I could drink this all day without getting bored.
