Meh, not the greatest effort. Pours a little darker than your average yellow adjunct stuff, but the smell is not enjoyable. Call it "old farm". Why do I have horse blanket in an AAL?

Taste has a decent amount of malt backbone. But no hops. What is this, like 23 ibus? Hangs out on the palate without being obtrusive or ditching you, but it wasn't much to begin with, just simply isn't likeable enough in the other attributes to warrant any drinkability points.

Amber and clear in appearance, head is 1/4 inch in height to start but fleeting in duration. Slightly malty aroma, just a bare sense of brown sugar. Flavor is very transparent and limited, overall, just a light impression of molasses and cane sugar comes through. The hopping seems poor, but with a light-bodied and sprtitzy carbonated general character -- this brew is easy enough to throw back in quantity. No apparent adjunct characters, just not a lot of flavor.

( served in a talk hefe-weizen glass)

A-This beer is a clear straw yellow color with a pure white head. gentle carbonation.

S- light pils malt nose with some German hops bitterness, no strong aroma of fresh green hops just bitterness

T- German hops and pale malt are the main flavors with a light almost lemon apple hint. a slight honey malt in the finish as it warms, but very faint.

M- medium light mouthfeel with a light fizz to the feel.

D-This is a smooth clean beer that is refreshing yet has some interesting character but very subtle to mach the style.

"Helles" indeed, pouring a bright and clear yellow, capped with a two-finger head that settles too quickly and leaves no lace.

Flowery hops and lemon in the nose, a little fruity...a very clean, uncomplicated aroma.

Flavors are flowery, lightly sweet, mild citrus fruit (esp. lemon), mild grains, a slight honey-ish stick to the finish.

Extremely light in the mouth without being thin or watery...pretty crisp...raised up by healthy carbonation.

It would be easy to knock this if you're looking for a big beer...but this isn't even trying to be a tastebud-ripper. This is good, solid and enjoyable for the style...it's completely hitting the spot on this hot final day of August...and it's the best of the August Schell stuff I've had so far.

Had a pint on happy hour at Stub & Herb's. They served up a clear, light gold pint with a short white head. This beer reminded me a bit of Miller High Life (and Miller Lite) for the corn character. This lager, however, is cleaner and just plain tasty (for the style). There's a touch more body, and non of the acidic, seltzer-like bite in most adjunct beers. Worth a try when you're feeling thirsty.

My buddies and I pick up a case of this every year when we're in New Ulm for Bockfest. It pours very clear yellow with a white head. Head disappears quickly. It smells a little grainy and adjuncty. The flavor is pretty decent. It's a little grassy upfront, with a bit more hop bitterness than I expected. Finishes with a nice bready flavor. Body is pretty spot on, maybe a little too much carbonation. Overall, I'll get another case next Bockfest, but probably not before.

Even for an adjunct lager, this thing is pale. Almost no color at all. Looks like Seven $ 7 where there was just a few drops of whiskey and the rest of the glass was filled with soda. This thing developed a massive head that had very good retention. Heavy lacing is left on the glass. This would score higher in appearance if it had some color. Very weak aroma. A little graininess and sweet malt. No hops detected. The taste is also weak but somehow it tastes better than the big 3. Slightly sweet with some real malt flavor. No bitterness or hop flavor. The mouthfeel is where this beer really stands apart from other adjunct lagers. Smooth and creamy with a nice texture. Carbonation is kept in check. Easy to drink but not as good as Lakemaid, Grain Belt, or Dave's Brewfarm Select, but this is a lot cheaper than those other three.

Served in a pilsner glass, the beer pours a pale gold with a very small white head. It smells like sweet malt, corn and citrusy hops. The taste isn't too strong, but it tastes mainly like malt and corn, with a slight bitter aftertaste. The mouthfeel is light, but the beer is crisp and goes down easy. Overall, it's an OK beer. Nothing great, nothing awful.

hay in color with lots of carbonation. A nice big head of fizzy white on top that only hangs around for a few moments before settling back down into virtually nothing. Dull aroma of musty bready notes with hints of light grain and a very light overall presentation. Taste is crisp, clean, and not long lasting. What is there is your traditional wet hay like flavor, hints of malts, and just the slightest bit of bite from a bitter note toward the end.
