Like a maltier PBR.
I had this last night at Elsie's Bowling in NE MPLS on tap, in a pitcher. My overall impression was that it is different from Premium, in that the corn flavor is a little less pronounced, and definitely maltier. This addition to the Grain Belt family retains its lager roots. I don't think I would rate it as better or worse...just different, although I think I would still generally prefer Premium. Compared to the PBR (on tap) that it evokes, I think my personal preference would be the PBR, which to my palate has a more balanced flavor.
A: This beer has a semi cloudy dark amber appearance, much like Negra Modelo or XX Amber Lager. It pours with a thick foamy cream colored head, which slowly settles down to maybe 1/8 in. Not a lot of lacing.
S: Faint, slightly sweet bready odor. Nothing special.
T: As I describe above, much like PBR on tap, but maltier. It isn't sickeningly sweet - but the malt is definitely there. This seems to compound with repeated pours.
M: Average. The carbonation feels a little low for my liking - it lacks that bite. I think the added malt does give it a slightly thicker feel.
D: I had several pours from the pitcher, and this beer did not begin to feel heavy. The sweetness of the malt did however compound somewhat with each drink, making later pours a little sweeter than I'd like.
Serving type: on-tap
