pours out of the clear 12 oz. bottle a clear amber colour with a thin collar of foam. head reduces quickly and leaves just the most minimal of lace. sweet grainy aroma, some buttered toast and a hint of floral hopping. the taste is more of the same...sweet with some slightly toasted graininess...a bit of corn and a hint of green apple. a touch of flowery hoppiness in the flavour with an ever so slight yet assertive bitterness on the back end. tastes very nice and really is quite different from regular GB premium but shares some of the base qualities. lagerish type body with a slick yet crisp mouthfeel. this is where is differs from premium also in that this has a bit of bite on the tongue rather than the slippery slickness GBP. great drinkability. a full flavoured lager that is tasty and quenching with some quality characteristics.

definitely recommended. good stuff.

Caramel color with a two finger head with decent retention. Smells is sweet and bready malts with some hops.

The taste is also sweet and bready malts with some hops. Starts mildly sweet, and there is a bit of bitter hops at the finish. Light to medium bodied, nicely carbonated, and a bit of a dry finish. Very drinkable, and very good.

Serving glass: Poured from tap into Pint glass.

Appearance: Burnished amber with just a light head and not much lacing.

Smell: Light caramel malts - not much else.

Taste: Just barely sweet caramel grainy malts are the highlight, with a very, very light hop finish. Not much complexity, but appreciate the lower sweetness.

Feel: Moderate carbonation, surprisingly ample smooth body for a low abv lager.

Drinkability: Maybe not much going on, but it is well constructed and easy to kick back. Better than the standard Grain Belt.

A: Pours a clear carmel color with a little bit off off white foam head that dissipates after a minute or two. Lots of carbonation bubbles.

S: Sweet grains and bread. The slightest touch of toasted malt. Its got that classic Grain Belt smell to it, but with more malt.

T: Sweet breadyness and sweet grains with a slight tinge of bitter malt near the end. A little to much sweetness for my liking.

M/D: Thin and light mouthfeel, carbonated pretty well. Pretty straightforward, feels like a beer. Drink is okay, goes down easily, not sure if I would want to have multiples in a row though.

Nothing special, not bad at all though. Haven't had regular Grain Belt in awhile, so I'm not sure if I prefer this to the original.

Reviewed on 5-01-10
Reviewed cold from a bottle to a glass

A - Amber color, 2 fingers of foam but dissipated rather quick. Ok lacing ring with a fair amount of carbonation present

S - Caramel and malt notes, slight hops

T - Malty with a touch of caramel sweetness, lighter bodied brew

M/D - Another enjoyable brew from New Elm. Not quite a medium bodied brew, light and very easy to drink more than one. I recommend this brew if it is still around. I brought this brew to DarkLord day and had some good reviews from others outside of Minnesota

12 oz into a pint

A - Pours a very clear, transparent brown color. Head formation is strong, 2-3mm, just short of bright white. Breaks down to a film. Carbonation appears light.

S - Light caramel malt note, lightly sweet. Hopping is non-existent. Malt forward.

T - Starts off lightly sweet, some caramel and nutty malt notes. Mid-stream gets bitter, but still with a malt lean. A yeast spicy note comes in towards the end, with a hair of grainy finish.

M - Light mouth feel, light body. Carbonation massages the tongue, giving the beer a stinging feel.

D - Easy drinking. ABV is very manageable. Light sweetness is present, smooth, not overwhelming. Avoiding bitter flavors will appeal to the masses.

A= pours a nice bright amber color completely translucent with a nice two finger eggshell white head that holds some everage retention. Nice rocky looking head on it with a little sticky lacing on the side of the glass.

S= Smells pretty average. Nice malty sweetness to it. little spicy hop notes built into it but nothing really exciting. Smells a little dirty I would say. Much more dirty than the Premium. I sort of like the dirty smell to it. More phenols and complexity built in while still keeping to to be an average easy sippin everyguy beer.

T= Tastes pretty nice. Sort of like a Premium with a little but more malty sweetness to it. Definitally a little more complexity which is odd to mention for this category. Hits the tip of you tongue with a little hop bite to it. Not really exciting just enough to let you know the hops are there. The hops are earthy and spicy not the typical citrus bombs you get with a lot of west coast strands. The hops quickly give way to a Premium like characteristic to it that is then hightened by a little malty sweetness to it. The finish is super clean with no lasting flavors.

M= Crisp and clean. One of the smoothest beers I've ever had.

D= Excellent brew. I think this is just a little step up from Premium without making it too much of a craft beer lovers only beer. This is a nice step from the ordinary. Nothing crazy or special just a good easy drinking Amber Lager for a hard working guy after the job is done; exactly what Grain Belt was trying to portrait. Excellent work.

Appearance: Clear amber, good head.

Smell: Mild caramel, light grass.

Taste: Light breadiness, a little sweet caramel, but not too sweet.

Drinkability: Very sessionable, could have several in a sitting.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from Nordeast, but it is an easy drinking beer that I prefer over the standard Grain Belt. GB is a little too sweet/malt liquor tasting to me, Nordeast reminds me more of Sam Adams Light. Not super flavorful, but an easy drinker and good session beer.
