Schell's Goosetown is our interpretation of a traditional, German-style Gose. The beer pours clear, golden orange in color, with a thick white foam head. It has a bright lemon zest and coriander aroma with a slight saltiness reminiscent of a cool ocean breeze. A refreshingly light and citrusy tartness greets your palate, backed by a bready, wheat malt character and a touch of coriander spice. Lighter bodied, yet full flavored with a lively carbonation that gives the beer a crisp, dry finish. A uniquely refreshing session beer, perfectly suited for a warm summer day from the August Schell Brewing Company.

Schell's makes some great sours, but this isn't one of them. The acidity it too light and the flavor is too flat and bland. The spices are mild, and that'd be fine if there were bigger elements popping out, but there aren't. Inoffensive but a poor example of the style.

Poured from 12oz bottle into glass. Dating stamped on bottle neck is '100618 003643'.
Clear, deep gold colored body. 1-1/2 finger white head, which settles to ring and partial cap. sheets of lacing on glass.
Bready malt aroma with lemon and coriander.
Taste has the lemon and coriander, along with a bit of salt. Solid bready malt at the back.
Light mouth feel, quite refreshing. Good carbonation. Dry finish.
Good for summer sessions, but on the bland side.

Pours a lighter golden color. The head is 2 finger, and white, with some lacing on the glass. The retention is moderate.
The nose is fairly minimal. I get just a hint of malt, but so light.
Taste - A lot better than the nose. It is a bit of hop up front, that turns a bit sweet toward the back.
The body is lighter. The carbonation does come into the feel, and it is pleasing.
Lighter beer, but it represents the style well. A good beer for summer.

Without getting too detailed, this is a great summer beer. Light, refreshing, and full of flavor. You can taste the salt and coriander in every sip. Serve ice cold on a summer day, and you won't be disappointed. I always keep some on my fridge for company, as it is a crowd pleaser.

My first gose. I poured This from a bottle into a clear teardrop glass. It pours a nice orange with a two finger white head. The taste is a bit sour and lightly hopped. It's a very unusual taste and I'm not blown away by it. It's not fruity, but more spicey. I will probably not seek it out.

A really unadventurous gose, as far as the style goes. Salt is very subdued, with the paleness really dominating.
