Schell's Goosetown is our interpretation of a traditional, German-style Gose. The beer pours clear, golden orange in color, with a thick white foam head. It has a bright lemon zest and coriander aroma with a slight saltiness reminiscent of a cool ocean breeze. A refreshingly light and citrusy tartness greets your palate, backed by a bready, wheat malt character and a touch of coriander spice. Lighter bodied, yet full flavored with a lively carbonation that gives the beer a crisp, dry finish. A uniquely refreshing session beer, perfectly suited for a warm summer day from the August Schell Brewing Company.

12 oz bottle courtesy of KWMiles pours a clear gold color with a small white head. Not much for retention and lace.

Nose is like Ocean Water slushy from Sonic with some coriander. Which is a good thing...

Taste is light and grainy with a hint of salt and a moderate amount of witbier spice. Its pretty tame overall and I could definitely use a bit more yeastiness and/or tartness. But nonetheless, it is a pretty tasty beer that I wouldnt mind drinking a sixer at a tailgate with ease.

Poured into an Euler stange. Pours a medium golden amber with a half finger white head with good retention from active carbonation and nice lacing. Mild aroma of sweet malt and a hint of grassy hops. Flavor is mild with wheat and light lemon with a hint of salt and coriander. Light bodied with pleasant carbonation. A quite tame gose, closer in character to a light hefeweizen, but the salt and coriander elements of gose are present, if very attenuated. Probably not a good introduction to the style, but a pleasant drinking light wheat beer with a bit of character from the gose ingredients.

pours out a clear copper colour with a thin pure white head with a bit of stickiness. lightly malty with an underlying coriander spice in the nose. definite salt water hints with an ever so slight muddled hop note. on the tongue it provides an airy and salty lemon-like flavour, with subtle spice from the coriander and a noticeable earthy hop bitterness. it has a refreshing quality to it. the body is light and the mouthfeel is on the watery side with a slight sharpness from the salt added. drinkability is nice...i had a few of these during this past summer and thought they were a pretty nice summer quencher. i also think that this beer pairs well with some salty snacks and a warm outdoor patio.

overall, not having any experience with the gose style, that this was a fair offering from Schell's. it made a nice quencher after shoveling some snow, as it did this past summer after a day of yardwork. i'll be revisiting this next summer for sure...but i wonder how long it will remain in the year round line up.

12oz bottle into a Duvel tulip; thanks to mnbearsfan for this interesting-sounding extra.

A: Pours a brilliant, crystal-clear orange-amber body under two inches of fine white head. Retention is decent, lacing good. Extremely attractive.

S: Rather understated, with some bready wheat malt alongside faint lemony citrus and just a hint of salt - I doubt I would have even noticed this last element if I weren't looking for it based on the style and description. Nothing offensive, but it's not terribly Gose-like, either.

T: Significantly better here, with crisp citrus alongside dry crackery malt; coriander spice and a faintly salty twang on the dry finish. Quite refreshing.

M: Lively medium body. Soft and effervescent. Great.

O: Really enjoyable beer, but not as distinctive as I was hoping for; not a hint of tartness, which is something I've enjoyed in both the classic Leipziger Gose and some of the saltier American takes on the style. I really love the way the salt isn't overdone in this beer, but I could have used more flavor in other departments. Certainly worth drinking, but if you're expecting something out there based on the style you'll probably be disappointed.

Cheers!
