Good looking draught beer with a new ce nose; otherwise, watery meh.

Cruzcampo Pilsen has a thick, white head and a clear, straw appearance, with heavy lacing. The aroma is of white bread crust with a touch of hop spice. The flavor is of those elements. It has a medium body and a crisp finish.

Grupo Cruzcampo S.A. “Cruzcampo Pilsner”
33 cl can coded “04/05/24 L3125724P08:46” and sampled on 25/11/23
Seven or eight days into a long trip through Spain I’ve been informed by the locals in Granada that the only beer in Sevilla is Cruzcampo. I doubt that but I’ve picked up a Cruzcampo Pilsner to prepare for the visit. How bad can it be? It’s poured a clear golden body beneath a thumb’s width of rocky white foam. The aroma is clean, floral, and lightly malty ~ I see no problem so far. The taste is not really that much different than most of the Euro lagers that I’ve come across but at least this one is nicely balanced. Is it an adjunct lager? Yes, it contains corn; and it’s also made with hop extract rather than real hops. It’s moderately bitter but balanced and the finish is dry without a whole lot of anything lingering. It’s medium bodied and crisp in the mouth. This is essentially the best, clean Euro lager at 4.8% that you could hope for. It’s lacking in character, yes, but it’s also refreshing and enjoyable as a beer that you don’t even think about while you’re drinking it. Would I prefer something else, of course, but this is the beer at hand so I’m going to finish it. P.S. ~ 27/11/23 in Sevilla. Although Cruzcampo does dominate the market it’s certainly not the only beer available, as expected. The only beer from Cruzcampo that I’ve found that I like better is the “Cruzcampo Especial” which adds a bit of tastiness to the malt and some herbal hops. They’re very close in score but I feel that one wins out.

Best drink in Spain, super refreshing and an excellent buy in the small cans, nice and cold pick me up on any city walk around Spain, apparently not well regarded but each to his own, light and refreshing like spring water perfect to keep you going and much better for your health than sugary pop or energy drinks, love this stuff 10/10.

330 ml can, bought in Tenerife. Pale golden colour, decent head. Sweetish fruity and grassy aroma, notes of maize (corn) too. Flavour is watery and "neutral" with some tolerable hops in the finish. Acceptable as a thirstquencher, but not much more.

This beer is mocked throughout Spain, and rightly so. Only tolerable when drunk ice cold on a blistering hot afternoon in Andalusía. As soon as it starts to warm, even a tad, it becomes sweet & sickly. It labels itself as a pilsner. Hmm. A pilsner with no hop character at all. Poor.
Makes a decent base for a shandy though.

surprised this doesnt have better ratings, everyone always seems to take things out of context, or at least thats my assumption on a lot of global lagers like this, i mean against all beer yeah its not a standout, but against euro pale types its solid, and against much of the rest of the spanish lager scene, its quite strong. see its more a pils than a classic pale lager, more grain character without the sweetness, more crisp at the end, some bittering hops in play, and overall a fantastic texture thats dry, uplifting, almost nitro feeling, had this on the glacial draft, apparently colder than average, and it was delightfully clean and refreshing. pretty pour too, an inch of permanent and thick white head on top of radiant golden brassy brew, lovely clarity. some floral character to the hops as it warms, a touch metallic as many of them are here then too, but a fast finish nevertheless. decent body to it, more of a german malt thing too, less cheap tasting than its peers, and frankly a delicious little brew that i could have made an afternoon of. i like how it seemed common to serve small pours of this so that constant cold ones could be brought, makes awesome sense for outdoor daytime drinking. way way way better than its ratings here in my experience...
