Served at 55 degrees F in a nonic pint glass.

A: Brown with heavy red tones and persistent creamy off white one inch head. Beer coats the glass as level recedes.

S: Toasty malt. caramelized and sweet. smells like skull splitter.

T: Toasty and firm malt sweetness with a noticeable but gently perceived bitterness that adds a nice balance.

M: Smooth with mild cask conditioned carbonation.

D: I'm finding these cask conditioned ales to be quite drinkable. Who knew that warm flat beer could be so delicious.

A: Served a brownish amber color with a decent head that fades to some lacing.

S: Aroma of malt, caramel with bit of fruit and nut in the background.

T: Taste of malt, some carmel sweetness and a bit of nuts. Nice bitterness and a fairly dry finish.

F: Fairly full body, smooth and quite creamy, nicely balanced.

O: Best of the bitters that they serve. Good stuff that hit the spot.

Cask, so, filled to the top with almost no head with a tiny ring around the outside. Clear amber color.
Smell is all caramel malt. Can't swirl for more nose, so, take a sip. Taste, all caramel malt with a hint of a bitter finish. A hint of fruitiness in the middle, but that's trying to find something. Traditional boring British esb. Nothing more to say really.

Very sweet nose with lots of toffee. A touch of fruitiness too.

Clear copper colour with a moderate off-white head. Decent retention.

Very, very sweet with a toasted dark toffee flavour. A hint of fruitiness but the sweetness masks almost everything else.

Almost grainy in texture with a medium body and low carbonation.

If I wanted a dessert, this would be the beer. Rich and sweet it ticks all of those boxes but it lacks a touch of finesse and could be drier.

On tap from a hand pump. This ESB was served at the right temperature in a proper glass which gets my notice quickly. A nice nose on this beer. It's floral, not citrus-like. Color was a deep amber, bordering on a maple syrup hue. A creamy off-white head.

Considering the fact that New Zealand seems to have an aversion to hoppy beers, this one is nicely balanced. It's initially sweet, but allowing it to linger for a bit brings the hop bitterness and flavor coming through. Probably the best effort of all the beers I tried at Galbraiths.

Served on cask! This puppy poured a clear orange teak color. I smelled candied malts, roasted plums, raisins and citrus and pine. It tasted pretty much the same as the nose just a tad lighter. It tasted not as bitter as I would have expected for an ESB.
