Sawtooth in name only. The nitro can be a plus or a minus to a brew. I did not like this addition to an otherwise great beer. (125 characters)

Great beer ! You've got to dump it into a glass to get any head . All their nitros are that way hence the "pour hard" . But overall a very silky smooth feel and great taste . One of my favorites . (197 characters)

I like nitros but, this one seemed flat, tasted grassy, bought a sampler six and this was my least favorite. I was actually surprised how bad this was. (151 characters)

This pours brilliant copper amber under a very finely bubbled white foam cap that lightly hugs the side of the glass. The nose is nutty, spicy, and malty with some fruit. The palate follows the nose with the nuttiness more expressed and the malt balanced by some rich hop flavors. Also some hard to define background fruit. Finishes dry. Medium light body, very creamymedium low to low carbonation. A good beer but the nitro washes out some of the character in this beer. (471 characters)

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tall pint glass. Bottle says best by 05/05/14.

Appearance: Pours a deep amber orange with a lot of bubbles. About two fingers of off white head with decent retention. Leaves a lot of creamy lacing.

Smell: A toasty, nutty, and fairly earthy malt forward aroma with hints of caramel and biscuit. Upfront toasted malts with hints of biscuit, grains, caramel, toffee, toasted bread, nuts, yeast, and cracker. Hints of earthy hops and grass. Slight hints of brown sugar sweetness. A pretty solid ESB style aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a nutty, toasty, and earthy malt driven taste with notes of biscuit and caramel. Bready toasted malts with upfront notes of bsicuit, grains, toffee, caramel, nuts, yeast, toasted bread, cracker, and yeast. Slight notes of brown sugar. Decent hop presence with earthy notes of grass. A solid taste.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a heavy amount of carbonation from the nitro. Very creamy and smooth.

Overall: A pretty solid take on the ESB style. Good nutty malt flavor with a nice touch of hops and cream from the nitro. (1,103 characters)

12 oz bottle upended into an over-sized .5L mug to accommodate the expected large head. Well, only a 2 cm head was generated but it did have excellent retention. While the appearance was not disappointing, the feel was, with very good carbonation and smoothness but an overly thin body.
Malt, hops and some dark fruits in the aroma. Some raisins in the taste as well, but mostly malt with a mild, lightly spicy hop aspect. Has a typical mildly bitter ESB finish and aftertaste.

O - a good ESB. (499 characters)

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a pretty, almost opaque, deep, dark, mahogany color, speckled with orange highlights and a quarter of a finger of white-colored head that quickly dissolved into a thin lacing of foam that completely covered the top of the beer.

Aroma: Not much in the aroma department at all. I do get some faint aromas of bready, toasted malt, and a touch of caramel and black pepper, but not much else, and very faint notes at that.

Taste: Delicious, but not as good as the regular Sawtooth. The Nitro version has the same delicious flavors of strong, notes of bready, toasted malt up front, imparting flavors of freshly baked English muffins and sourdough bread, followed by some caramel and brown sugar-like sweetness and black pepper. There is very little to no hops, in this beer, which, since it’s an English-style ESB, makes it spot-on appropriate to have almost no hops what-so-ever. The only reason why the Nitro version isn’t as good as the regular Sawtooth is the Nitro version is a little watered down in flavor (as well as mouthfeel, which I mention below). The Nitro version is not as rich in flavor as the regular Sawtooth, which detracts from it a slight bit.

Mouthfeel: Medium, to medium-thin-bodied, but still very creamy and smooth as there is no carbonation what-so-ever, thanks to the nitrogen treatment of the beer. Unfortunately, the addition of the nitrogen has watered down the mouthfeel a touch, making it a touch watery instead of the full, medium-bodied mouthfeel the regular Sawtooth has. With an ABV of 5.3%, there is no alcohol on the palate.

Overall: Like the regular Sawtooth, this Nitro’d version is a delicious, malty, slightly sweet, English-style ESB! A malt-bomb for sure! It’s another great beer from Colorado, and another great beer from Left Hand, which is fastley becoming one of my favorite Colorado breweries. I just prefer the regular version of Sawtooth over the Nitro-version. (1,992 characters)
