Pours a nice cloudy reddish brown with a thck creamy head that never fully leaves. The smell is of yeasties, wheat and a hint of citrus. The beer starts off tasting like an ordinary hefe with the yeasty wheat flavors and slight citrus undertones. The brew then takes a turn as the dark malt flavors bring a great balance around. The beer is creamy on the tongue and extremely drinkable. WOW, this is one damn fine brew. I had previously only tried one or two dunkels but I am definitely going to be seeking out some more of these.

Poured a dark mahogany color with good head,very clovey slight chocolate smell.Had the traditional kinda sweet clovey taste to a dunkle weisse,had nice medium body,pretty easy to drink.Nice to see these beers available here in north carolina,have had other Tabernash and liked them as well.

Presentation: 12oz brown bottle with bottled on date. Even has proper weissbier pouring instructions. 1) pour 2/3 of bottle into glass, 2) turn bottle upright and swirl [the yeast around], 3) pour remainder into glass.
Appearance: A cloudy dark brown/amber beer with a huge off-white creamy foam head that stays very nicely.
Smell: Toasted matls, caramel, soft fruity banana and hints of clove.
Taste: Very soft on the palate initially, peaking with a flash of light lemony bitterness. Now let's digress. Not overly malty (until warmed), light bodied and creamy. The malt that is present is semi-musty, grainy with toasted, light chocolate and light caramel flavours. Banana bread, faint clove and yeast flavours also come into play. Finishes with some dryness and yeast flavours.
Notes: An awesome dunkel weissbier! Personally, I would have preferred a bit more malt upfront, but that aside this beer is bang on style. Buy some and enjoy!

Presentation: 12 oz brown bottle with a bottled on date on the side of the label.
Appearance: Hazed amber-brown with two fingers of solid head.
Smell: Mild clove with a light fermented wheat tartness. Faintly bready.
Taste & Mouth Feel: Quite smooth and crisp with a medium body. Earthy palate with an almost woody flavor from a dusty husk character. Vague hops are over run by the flash of spiciness. Long lingering yet mild tartness from yeast shows a touch of nuttiness.
Drinkability & Notes: Not half bad for a domestically brewed Dunkel Weiss. Its awesome to see a brewery tackle this style. Went well with some beer braised hot Italian sausage and peppers.

Light brown, slight dark orange appearance to the beer, points for being different I guess. Frothy head. Aroma was massive clove and banana bread.
Taste, more clove. Wheat base is evident. Very much a sandwich in a bottle style of beer, just so heavy on the breadiness. Probably authentic for its style. I tend to like more Americanized dunkels, with hops or spicy, which this seems to have very little of either. A toffee and nuts flavor approaches as the beer warms. For being so low in alcohol relatively speaking, it sure took me some time to finish this one off.
From my notes, I couldn't figure out why the heck Michael Jackson thought this beer was so awesome?

Dark and somewhat hazy amber appearance with a sturdy and small-bubbled brownish head of about 1/2 an inch. Esters abound in the massive banana aroma, also some spun cotton candy. Flavor closely follows the smell. A slight bit of graininess and stale cocoa adds to a somewhat suffocating mouthfeel and an overdone ester sense. Finishes quickly and somewhat dryly sticky. Many Dunkel Weisse beers are similar to this one, but overall its just too unidimensional for my tastes.

Cloudy brownish amber glass with an unmoving mass of a beige head.
Attractive aroma of dark malts (chocolate) and the standard clove and banana weiss trait. Plastic aromas are noted as well, likely a result of this bottle's age.
Taste is akin to liquid chocolate-covered banana. Slight carmel notes and pepper clove spice round this one out. Plastic is noted once again.
Smooth, soft and creamy in mouth. Literally like pureed bananas.
This must be a stunner when fresh. My bottle was impressive, even though clearly age-damaged.

Pours a beautiful deep amber, with a thick tan head that retains well...a nice looking dunkel to say the least. Aroma is biscuity malt, with a fruity, banana-y, clove like yeast scent. Taste begins with a biscuity malt flavor followed by a banana flavor with hints of corriander, and plums. Mouth feel is crisp and refreshing with moderate carbonation. Drinkability is quite good and i could definately have a few more.

Tabernash Dunkel Weiss: in a bottle, with kind of a cool label, not unlike the pint to your upper left on this page. The label has pouring instructions, pour, wait, swirl, and pour again. Pours a hazy brown, with a fairly deep haze. Not much head, but what there was stayed around for a little while. Aroma is initially malty, with a little bit of banana. Really nice taste, significant sweetness for a weiss beer. A slight taste of chocolate, followed by a nice leavening blast of yeast, coupled with some dried fruit flavor, primarily raisons. Nice and easy to drink.

Pours a dark brown color with a smallish white head. Carbonation is flowing nicely. Scent is grainy with a tropical fruit aroma, pretty par for the style. This is an odd tasting beer. It's grainy up front for a second, but the taste of cloves is stronger than any other wheat brew i've had, especially in the tail end of the taste. It's a bit overpowering, and detracts from this weizen. Aftertaste is really just cloves and perhaps sweat socks. My mouth is sticky. Pretty dissapointing, and I won't be buying this one again, even though I tend to love wheat beers.

Huge head that subsides to a persistent creamy layer. Good bannana-dominated aroma. Hits the tongue lively and finishes smooth and creamy. Nice contrast. The middle is typical dunkel flavors, which few American brewers seem to be able to do, but that I find lacking for some reason. A good beer none-the-less.

Thick, buzzing, cream-colored head on top of a brown body. Slightly yeasty aroma, not very strong. Somewhat flat in taste, with a lack of carbonation that seems strange given the thick head. Also has a bitter and edgy-sour aftertaste. Lacing is moderate.
Perhaps I need to spend some more time with this style. An acceptable beer, but not one that I would love to see in my hand again.
Those reading my review are advised to read all of the reviews for this beer. Quite a range -- from low 2's to high 4's. Seems to me that this is the kind of beer that one ought to try, because those who love it, love it greatly.

Dark and rich looking, this Dunkel had some nice attributes. I could smell and taste some spices, mostly clove and banna. Certianly not overpowering, this is a smooth brew. Very much on the sweet side, but balanced. Malty and creamy, with a nice rounded texture, it was a pleasure to drink.

Pours a walnut/strong tea brown. Soft aroma of slightly over-ripe banana. Up front the malt is tangy with a phenolic whack of what almost turns into banana, but at the last instant vanishes back into the malt. Rather odd. Tangy wheat flows into a slightly acidic finish with bittering at the roof of the mouth and back of the tongue. Not my favorite dunkel weisse, by far.

12 oz bottle. Medium brown color, bottle swirl produced yeasty cloudiness. Foamy creamy beige head, laced the glass but disappeared quickly.
Sweet carmel malt smell fill up the glass. Some very traditional wheat beer clove and candied fruit, hints of bananas. Carmel malt and buttery finish. Sweet not syrupy. Feel and drinkability fall apart toward the end. Turns more watery, flavors dimish. Some sweet carmel flavors sit in the glass. A refreshing light, thirst quenching beer, but mostly average when it comes to comparing it to the style.

The pour a light chill hazed deep copper or mahogany I think better describes the color, head is walloping and the consistency frothy, as it erodes, it leaves in its wake fine sheets of lace. A nutty sweet aroma at the top with hints of caramel, and some yeast, pleasing to the senses at any rate. The beer commences with malt and lightly sweet, the top skinny, the finish is mildly acidic, scarcely hopped and the aftertaste dry and somewhat sour. Once again a drinkable but only average beer, but then Ive sampled much worse.

I picked this up on a business trip to Colorado. I'm glad that I did.
Appearance: this pours an opaque reddish brown with an off white head.
Aroma. The nose is of sour cherries, surprisingly enough. There's some sweetness in the nose too. I liked the aroma
Flavor: Although it lacks the 'crispness' that I enjoy in wheats, this brew has a very enjoyable, slightly sweet flavor.

Murky dark bronze in hue, topped by a thick, well retained light beige head. Musty yeast and tart wheat upfront in aroma, followed by caramel sweetness and lightly nutty and toasty malt. Light saltiness coupled with the dark caramel sweetness lends a note of salty dark licorice akin to Fisherman's Friend towards then end of the aroma. Fruity esters are mild, but mild banana is perceptible. A hint of chocolate malt eeks its way in into aroma towards the end. Flavorwise, grainy notes upfront quickly yield to clean caramel malt sweetness, and a hint of toasty Munich. Esters are mellow, but more prominent then expected from the understated aroma. Banana and clove are well integrated into malt sweetness, and add some character to this otherwise prosaic dunkelweizen. Lightly bodied, and a touch thin in mouthfeel. Finishes w/ a hint of tart fruitiness and a dry herbal note., but otherwise clean and dry otherwise. Tabernash is unique American interpretation of the style, but is unfortunately lacking in malt and yeast derived character. It's quite a quaffable brew, however. Noteable are the esters which become oniony and savory as the beer warms.

Huge froth collapses into a beer meringue sculpture. Lovely reddish brown the color of a translucent Jersey cow. I love wheats, I should try some good German representations. This one smells like homemade wine, and wet slate. Taste: Lemon, banana, mint, fresh whole wheat bread, basement must and barn dust. Sticky, pumpkin bread. I love it!

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1" beige head over the slightly murky dark amber brew. Head fades pretty quickly down to about 1/4", and lacing is minimal to average. Aroma is lightly of fruits and wheat. Taste is dominated by a tart fruitiness, and little wheat character is tasted. Mouthfeel is reasonable for the style, and drinkability is nice and thirst-quenching. Not a bad brew, but I'm guessing it has lost a bit over time. Have to revisit in the future.

I'm not a huge fan of the style, but this beer just might win me over. Very attractive cloudy amber in color, with a moderately sized, extrremely persistant off-white head. The aroma is really attractive -- dominant note is a slightly tangy wheat, accompanied by more of the typical weissbier aromas--banana and cloves. All this is undergirded, however, by a really pleasant sweet maltiness. Aroma really gets the best of both worlds. The malt asserts itself nicely in the flavor too, starting sweet and taking on a nice toffee-like toastiness mid-palate. The finish is citric, lemony and tangy, but these blend incredibly well with the malt. The body is medium and very smooth; the persistant head actually helps out with this, and also aids the flavor by cutting some of the finishing bitterness/tartness. A terrific entry in a difficult style.

12 oz. bottle from a mixed six pack ($8/sixer), with a bottled date of June 25, 2004. Poured into a pilsner glass following the instructions on the bottle: pour 2/3 into glass, then swirl bottle to mix in yeast, then pour the rest.
Appearance: A nice amber/orange color, with the cloudiness you'd expect from a wheat beer. Good white head that eventually goes down to about two millimeters thick, but never disappears. Looks great.
Smell: Caramel and banana bread.
Taste: Great balance to this one... banana up front with a malty aftertaste that lingers just long enough. Tasty!
Mouthfeel: Nice and creamy. Dries your mouth a bit at the finish, making you want another sip.
Drinkability: I could definitely drink multiple glasses of this beer, but the carbonation is just a bit high for my tastes. I believe that's expected in this style.
Notes: I really like this beer! I'm new to this style, so can't say how it compares, but I will definitely come back for more of this in the future.
