First off, this is a review for the NITRO milk stout, not the original. This beer is not an alias for Left Hand Milk Stout but Beer Advocate is being dumb and calling it one.
Second, this beer needs to be dumped into the glass, not poured, but dumped as in completely inverted in one motion. It's critical to getting the most out of it. I poured one hard and my wife dumped one in (both into Sammy Smith tulip pint glasses) her's was much, much better than mine. It was thicker, creamier and came across as sweeter too.
A: black; opaque with just a shot of dark red-brown light getting through if you hold it up to a really bright light capped with a thick, tan, creamy head
S: roasty cocoa/mocha
T: like a melted chocolate shake with a touch of roast in the finish
M: thick and creamy with a low carbonation (I realize this is a nitro beer); oily; decadent (like it's gonna make you fat)
O: this beer kicks ass! It's luscious and creamy and everything it's supposed to be. I would have scored this beer even higher if they would have made the pouring instructions more prevalent and obvious because it makes that much of a difference. in fact if you wanted a slightly thinner beer with more roast and coffee notes you can just pour a little slower (still real hard, just not as violently), you should experiment. Also, I would have included chocolate in the description on the packaging also (i.e. chocolate milk stout) because this IS a great chocolate milk stout. Unless Terrapin releases Moo-Hoo on nitro, this is probably my new favorite. Now I'm a sucker for milk stouts, especially on nitro, but I didn't think they'd pull it off in the bottle. I was wrong. Thank You, Left Hand.

My favorite beer out there right now. This stout sets the standard for all other stouts. A fine dark color and aroma of coffee and chocolate milk sets up a smooth and think taste that we all expect from our stouts. The chocolate flavors leave a pleasant aftertaste that keeps you coming back.

A - Coca cola coloured, topped with a lightweight cap of mocha foam.
S - Smoke and coffee hit me first off. Roasted malts play a supporting role. The aroma is nice but not outstanding.
T - Mild yet a little underwhelming. All the classic stout flavours are there, but they're muted.
M - It's definitely super smooth, so credit to Left Hand for figuring out how to put nitro beer in a bottle. Be that as it may, it feels smooth in part due to feeling undercarbonated. Milky yet too thin to be called creamy.
O - I'd try this again on tap, but this beer reiterates to me that it's hard to go back once you've gone Imperial. This might be a nice step on the ladder if you seek to climb upwards from Guinness.
