Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a beer mug.
Appearance: Pours a deep, rich mahogany (fiancee says a dark root beer color). Beer is 99% opaque, and the head is a rich, frothy tan. Light lacing, and decent head retention.
Smell: Toasty, rich and sweet toffee malt. Dark roast coffee. Carob bean. Mellow and sweet. Perfect for a milk stout.
Taste/Mouthfeel: Beer is slightly tart as it touches the tongue. Bitterness around the edges, a pretty gnarly coffee vibe. Pretty strong and very tasty. Doesn't exhibit a great deal of thickness, something I desire in a stout. Aftertaste is malty goodness, finishes slightly wet.
Overall: Very good beer...the only thing throwing it off is a thinness that is uncharacteristic of the genre. Otherwise, superb.
