Poured from the bottle into a pint glass. Generated a great brown 2-finger head that quickly dropped to islands of tiny bubbles. No lacing but more islands of foam on the sides of the glass.
The smell was smokey with a slight alcohol scent. The color was pretty close to black in my glass.
The first three swallows were each different. I caught the smoke immediately on the first, followed by a bittering/burnt taste on the next swallow and finally a sweetness on the third swallow. Lots of flavors going on.
My biggest disappointment was the mouthfeel with no lasting carbonation or creaminess. Once I reach the last third of the glass, it was like drinking toasted water, but good tasting toasted water.
Not that much different than the Young's Double Chocolate Stout I drink.
