APPEARANCE: Only a touch of faint red light can penetrate the deep, dark, black color of this beer. A surprisingly white creamy head rests on top and is about an inch thick. It isn’t going anywhere. It just sits and sits and sits. As is the case with many Left Hand beers, the lacing is excellent and very thick.

SMELL: Roasted malt and coffee lead the nose here with hints of subtle nuttiness. Smoky.

TASTE: Given the heavy doses of coffee and roasted malt in the nose this beer is surprisingly sweet and chocolaty. The smoky, bitter flavors of coffee and roasted malt are certainly present, but not as strong as they would seem to be given the smell. A small taste of caramel also lingers in the background.

MOUTHFEEL: The creamy head would lead one to believe that this beer would have a creamy feel. To a certain extent, it does, but it also has some solid sparkle to it. It is big bodied and rich, but sits on the lighter side. Finishes dry with a slightly toasty mouthcoating.

OVERALL: This is one of Left Hand’s better regular efforts. The sweeter chocolate flavors balance the bitter coffee very well.

A- Awesome black pour with a small sticky head that goes away after a while, but leaves a nice ring long after.

S- Chocolate and vanilla come through right away. A little bit of malt after a while.

T- A wonderful smooth malty flavor with hints of vanilla.

M- Thick and chewy.

O- A wonderful dark stout that reminds me a lot of a stout from Ole Peninsula up in Kalamazoo, MI. Great beer all around.

Poured a JET Black stream with a dirty white head into my Sam Adams specialty glasses. The aroma was basically the same that I've noticed with almost any stout. Coffee and Chocolate present with a slight trace of nutmeg.

I tasted this one at cellar temperature (65 degrees). Again, nothing really different about this one vs other stouts I have tasted. If anything, I didnt' detect any sweetness to this one as I have with other Milk Stouts.

The Coffee comes through pretty clear. It is a very nice mouthful, full and robust. The aftertaste is typical of a stout (for me), it leaves your mouth dry, waiting for another sip.
