Milk sugar in your stout is like cream in your coffee. Dark and delicious, America’s great milk stout will change your perception about what a stout can be. “Preconceived notions are the blinders on the road to enlightenment.” Udderly delightful.

Ah, the elusive (for me in Quebec anyways) nitro bottle. Thanks to Masterski for this one.

Poured from a 12oz (nitro) bottle, bottled on 04/04/12.

Appearance: A hard pour (like the label says) reveals a very dark body with an average, creamy tan head. The cascading effect is nice but short lived. Makes up for it a bit with thick sheets of lacing.

Smell: All about the glorious chocolate. Milky, chunky, semi-sweet, powdery and a very mild roastedness.

Taste: Milky chocolate, like a shake. Mix of bakers chocolate and cream. Simple yet good flavors.

Mouthfeel: Ultra smooth like silk (thanks nitro!) but does carry a very faint bitterness tucked in the back.

Overall: Very easy to drink and while not complex, i don't think that's the goal. Worth grabbing.

A: This had some nice smoke coming out of the bottle for starters. The appearance is a nice dark color with some crazy carbonation in the middle but not throughout. And is complimented with a thin, creamy, mocha type head.

S: Instant chocolate and caramel malts in the aroma with a hint of lactose and yeast.

T: Flavor consists of chocolate, caramel, and some roasted malts. The finish is just like a stout with that dry, bready taste.

M: Mouth feel is very smooth like drinking chocolate milk or something of that nature.

O: This is only the 2nd Milk Stout I ever had and its just as good as any other stout. Really creamy and flavorful. This is a top notch stout and I would recommend it to anyone. Great beer!

appearance: Near black, creamy head, just one or two fingers. Lost quickly.

smell: You get a hint of malts with some coffee/caramel sweetness. Oatmeal and sweet malts. All very faint.

taste: mild taste of roasted malts with some caramel sweetness, finished with a light coffee bitter. It's light, but has a nice flavor balance making it enjoyable. But it's just a tad to faint tasting to really shine.

mouthfeel: light, thin, watery. Low carbonation. Tad milky maybe :)

Overall: On one hand i enjoy the lightness. It's very easygoing. On the other hand it's not really that special. It lacks a bit of punch i enjoy with stouts. But having those around already this is a nice addition to the stout range, being the light and easy going one for some variation or for people who want to try an easy stout as an introduction to the genre. I almost tend to say this is stout for kids ;)

Left hand milk stout
Poured from a 12oz bottle into my DFH signature glass.
A: Nice two finger head that dissipates fairly quickly. Decent lacing, very dark but not like a bourbon aged stout more of a watery darkness.
S: Coffee, chocolate some small caramel notes. Nice and complex.
T: Coffee, some decent carbonation. Not a lot of burned malt but some roasted tastes. Overall very smooth if relatively simple.
M: Coffee, caramel very simple doesn’t develop much.
O: A good if somewhat simple stout. B to B + range

Pours an awesome one fingers worth of a creamy cascading white/brown head which dissipates to a fluffy white head. Awesome lacing. Black body with brown around the edges when held up to the light.

Smells of roasted malts, fruity, bready and sweet.

Tastes lightly of roasted malts, bready malts, light chocolate and maybe some biscuit and carmel.

Medium thin bodied. Very creamy on the initial sip every time. Light lingering roast and bitterness. Quite silky which transitions to a very neutral mild light finish.

This is a great beer. Highly quaff-able and satisfying. This is not a bold flavor crazy beer in any way. It's just right for the style. Creamy, light, hints of roast, fruity esters and bready malts.
