750 ml corked and caged bottle that was shared by seaoflament a few minutes before the Port 2nd Anniversary party started, thanks a lot for letting me try this brew from Colorado

A-Very dark brown with some red highlights, small 1/2 inch light tan head that did not stay around for long, not much retention or lacing

S-Smokiness, aroma kind of scared me because I would not have enjoyed the taste at all if it was like the smell, dark chocolate, roasted malts, salt, and beef jerky

T-Smoked malt is what I tasted first, then roastiness in the middle with some almonds, dark chocolate in the finish and a hint of smokiness, faded into a dry aftertaste, did not change much and this could be mainly because I drank my sample within fifteen minutes or so, pretty well balanced for a smoked beer and it was not too overpowering thankfully

M-Smoky, meaty, and dry mouthfeel, medium level of carbonation, medium to full bodied, taste lingered too long for me

D-Could not have drank more than the few ounces Carlos gave me, heavy on the stomach, smoked beers are just hard to get down in general, ABV is high and can slightly taste it in the finish

Not a big of fan of smoked beers but this one was more subtle than others I have tried in the past, probably would not drink again mainly because this is not my thing, worth trying though

22oz Bottle on the RBSG bus tour. Dark brown, opaque, small tan head. Smokey, ashy aroma. Taste reflects the smoked malts, campfire, ashtray, tobacco. Dry finish with small bitter bite

650 ml bottle, shared by Ole Anders. Black colour, moderate to low beige head. Strong aroma of smoked meat and Østbye’s ski wax (pre-WW II). Plenty of smoke in the flavour too, accompanied by moderate roasty notes. Too much smoke for my taste.

Friday's meandering around through the Bottle (!) Backlog took a detour into The CANQuest (tm), however gloriously briefly, but today, it is back to/on the Bottlewagon. 8=( My recycler must be astounded this past month+ since I rarely fill the bin, but I have been doing so on a weekly basis since ~ 16 March. Usually, I am laser-focused on CANs & those get set aside for a ~ quarterly visit from Jeff Lebo over in York County for his massive CANlection. All is not lost, however, as most Bottles contain things that I did & still want to drink.

From the Bottle: "Brewed on the banks of the mighty St. Vrain"; "Here in Colorado we are blessed with abundant natural beauty. Smokejumpers are those fearless wildland firefighters who specialize in parachuting into the wilderness so that we can continue to enjoy it. Smokejumper Imperial Porter is a tribute to them - a twenty-one degree plato porter made with barley malt hand- smoked by our brewers. Roasty brown in color, the long lingering smokiness wraps around flavors of molasses, toasted malt and an earthy hoppiness. Here’s to smoke in your glass, not in the woods." ; "Enjoy at 55 - 60° F[,]"; "Cellar for up to 5 years"; "Ingredients: Rocky Mountain water, Malted Barley, Malted Wheat, Hops and Yeast"; Colorado Brewers Guild"; "Design by Moxie Sozo[,] Artist: Nate Dyer"; " Smoke Jumper Smoked Imperial Porter"; "National Smokejumper Association"; "Please keep refrigerated[,] Please recycle this bottle".

From the brewery's website: "IBU[:] 50[,] COLOR[:] Black[,] GLASS[:] Tulip Glass[,] MALT[:] Rauch, 2-Row, Smoked Munich, Chocolate, Wheat, Special W, Roasted Barley[,] HOPS[:] CTZ, Mt. Hood".

I Pop!ped the cap & started a slow, gentle C-Line pour into the awaiting Friendly Greek Bottle Shop (FGBS) goblet, per their direction. I may have been a bit too gentle on my initial pour as I got nothing but wisps. 8=( I questioned whether I had done something untoward or if it was just lightly carbonated. Both were possibilities. Color was onyx-Black/Opaque (SRM = 44), allowing ZERO light penetration. Nose was very smoky, evocative of walking into S. Clyde Weaver's shop on the Manheim Pike in East Petersburg, PA! 8=O It had that meaty, hickory-smoked quality that always makes my mouth water. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium, a bit thin for an Imperial style beer. Let that be my only bugaboo with this one & we are gonna be just fine! The taste landed somewhere between Sweet Lebanon Bologna & Sunkist Smoked Oysters. 8=O OMFG! Well, if you wondered why it was discontinued/Retired, there is your answer. Smoked/Rauchbiers are a very acquired taste & something like this would be at the far-R side of the spectrum. Phew! This evinced a smokiness that I had not exbeerienced in a while. I actually have a second bottle in abeyance & now, knowing what it tastes like, I will reserve it for a select few of like-minded imbibers. This cries out for smoked meats, smoked cheeses, smoked salmon & oysters, finished with cigars. What sort of stogies? Maduro wrappers! Macanudo, if you can find them. Finish left me with an unabating smokiness as the taste & flavor creeped into my sinuses, leaving me with a lingering smoky, oily flavor. 8=O Mmm. YMMV.

22 oz brown bottle - best by 10/14/2021

Left Hand Smoke Jumper Imperial Porter has a very dark brown almost black body. Atop sat a tan 1 1/2-finger foamy head that left a collar of lacing. The nose is dominated by a smoky aroma - much like a building that has burnt. The smell of burnt toast, also with the aroma of coffee and dark chocolate.

The taste starts out quite sweet, of dark toffee, and chocolate then followed by a burnt toast flavor. The mouth feel is smooth, with a full body and moderate carbonation.

Overall, Smoke Jumper is quite smoky but flavorful with the alcohol well hidden.

Smoked Porter/Stout tasting with DC. Bottle to snifter.
Bottled 3/24/14

LOOK: black color, hints of brown swirling around; head fades fast, but very strong lacing.
AROMA: Very Smokey...this was by far the smokiest and best of the bunch. Tobacco, roasted barley.
TASTE: smoke dominates, coffee, a hint of some peppery heat.
FEEL: Smooth and silky, almost full bodied.

This beer held up very well after 3 yrs, 8 mos.

Will buy this again if I see it. Technically DC bought this one, so not really "again".
