09/07/09- Purchased at Sun Devil Liquors in Mesa, AZ.
Presentation- 22oz bottle, 2008 Vintage. Poured into a Duvel tulip.
Appearance- Off black colored pour with a 3/4 inch head, some decent light patches and trails of lace left behind.
Smell- A good amount of rauch-like smoke, some dark chocolate and maybe a hint of coffee buried beneath.
Taste- Wow, I am really opposed to smoked beers in general and this one is really good. Some smoke, not a ton, but just the right amount to compliment the dark-bittersweet chocolate malt base. There is a slight bit of coffee as well.
Mouthfeel- Smooth with a medium carbonation level. Smoke adds quite nice in the aftertaste with the sweet chocolate malt.
Drinkability- Tops on my list for a smoked brew. Would purchase again...and that is saying alot coming from me.
