Inky-black pour with faint hints of mahogany. Totally impenetrable when in the glass. Beautiful multi-inch, tan, head forms. Thick, small bubbles. Retention is excellent! Roasted, toasty, smoky, sour, notes in the nose. The nose is evident, yet restrained and elegant. Smoke, and toast dominate. Anticipation builder! Medium-light body for a porter. Lingering smoke notes on the palate. Nose and palate bring forth memories of camp fires. Perhaps a little short? Delicious. Minimal (spotty) lace formation. Bright and balanced. Could be used as an aperitif. Certainly gets the gastric juices flowing! The ABV is not evident.
