'06 750ml corked bottle poured into a snifter at 45F.
This bottle made some noise upon opening. The beer has a cedar/ruby brown color with an active tan head. Had superb head retention and lace production for a two year old 10.5% brew.
A very smokey nose. The smoke is surrounded by swet malts, molasses, vanilla and caramel. There are also aromas of earthy hops and faint alcohol tones.
Roasty caramel and black malts with a good amount of bitter floral hops. There are some bittersweet molasses, chocolate and coffee flavors. Quite complex and complimented well by the smoked barley.
Nice and dry for aporter of this size. Full body and good crisp carbonation.
Very good example of this style. From the sweet start to the dry and bitter finish, it is complimented by the quality smoking job. Powerful and complex, but nothing out of balance. At 10.5% alcohol, this is more drinkable than most standard porters. It has aged well for two years and should continue to do so for at least a few more.
