A golden IPA with a mostly clear body, this beer has a nose that is fruity and a little bit malty/grassy, but mild by most measurements. The foam level looks nice at first, but falls apart in a short time, leaving a smooth but thin layer that holds its own as you drink.
Tasting this beer reveals flavors that include lightly toasted malt, citrus, and some herbal notes. The flavor is milder than that of other IPA, and the malt backbone a little less noticeable than most. A slightly bitter finish concludes each sip with the palate slowly returning to normal in a short time.
I love a good IPA, but this version from Left Hand, while certainly not bad, is a little weaker than most. I like that the alcohol flavor isn’t as noticeable as I first expected, but I would like the beer better with a little more body and a stronger, more dominant hop presence.
In conclusion, it isn’t the greatest, but it isn’t bad either and it makes a good choice for those who are less receptive to the IPA style.
