On-tap at the Yardhouse. On to the beer:

Good looking. As with many IPA's the head forms an inch thick, retains well on top, and a good dose of lacing stick around the glass. Also good is the aroma of this IPA. It's not a complete hop bomb, but it does offers some pleasant accents of pineapple and canteloupe to complement the honey base.

Tasty too. It's modestly herbal, with citrus and pineapple notes. Still, at a few parts the beer doesn't totally come together to justify a higher score. Regardless, the beer is medium bodied with an enjoyable level of crispness, and goes out as an honest IPA.

A golden IPA with a mostly clear body, this beer has a nose that is fruity and a little bit malty/grassy, but mild by most measurements. The foam level looks nice at first, but falls apart in a short time, leaving a smooth but thin layer that holds its own as you drink.

Tasting this beer reveals flavors that include lightly toasted malt, citrus, and some herbal notes. The flavor is milder than that of other IPA, and the malt backbone a little less noticeable than most. A slightly bitter finish concludes each sip with the palate slowly returning to normal in a short time.

I love a good IPA, but this version from Left Hand, while certainly not bad, is a little weaker than most. I like that the alcohol flavor isn’t as noticeable as I first expected, but I would like the beer better with a little more body and a stronger, more dominant hop presence.

In conclusion, it isn’t the greatest, but it isn’t bad either and it makes a good choice for those who are less receptive to the IPA style.
