To me, English IPAs focus a bit more on balance of malt and hops and aren’t simply out to destroy your palate. Spicy hops lead the way but there’s a distinct wheat breadiness. Also some of the hard water flavor found in a lot of English ales. Very unique mixture of hops including Magnum, Boadicea and Sovereign.

More punch than a Pale Ale, not as much as most IPAs. Respectable 6.8% ABV that adds just a touch of warmth.

It’s definitely good, but maybe a step below their porters, stouts, and the Good Juju.

400 Pound Monkey
12 oz brown bottle
Bottled on date is blank
Served in a 20 oz tulip glass

Pours a brass colored orange with a hazy tint. A nice white colored head forms on top leaving trails of sticky lacings.

The backbone of this beer has a biscuit malt and wheat bread flavor with a touch of caramel sweetness. The sip turns bitter with citrus flavors like tangerine or orange and floral notes.

There are some 'off' flavors here too, which makes me think this may not be the freshest sample. I can make this beer work, but there are so many better English style IPA's out there.

Pours a hazy light gold with a minimal head and no lacing.

Smells very malty with some bready tones and a slight earthy hop presence.

Pretty malty in the flavor too. Not a lot of up front taste but a pretty sweet caramel malt comes through and it finishes just a bit earthy and tangy.

Mouthfeel is on the light side, but not overly so. Carb levels good.

Ok. Nothing really off with it, but no flavors that wow me.
