12 oz bottle poured into a diconic with "bottled on 10/06/11"
stamped on the bottle neck. (seems a little old for a local beer)

Fairly light amber color with a decent head but only about one finger that disappears rapidly.

Predominant smell is the rye malt, not much else. Maybe some wheat.

The rye malt also dominates the taste. Gives it a nice peppery bite. Aftertaste is a strong bitterness.
(It looks like a lot of reviewers are not recognizing that it is
RYE malt that is the "unusual" taste and smell that many mention. The rye is noted on the bottle label and was
mentioned to me by the Left Hand employee that sold me
the beer)

The feel is really nice with a continuous pleasant fizz.

Overall, it's kind of sessionable if you really are into a bitter aftertaste.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear light yellow gold with a small white head that quickly goes to a thin collar that leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is biscuity malts and grassy hops.

The flavor is biscuity malts with some sweetness, leading to a good sized grassy / peppery bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and kind of watery.

Overall, I didn't really care for this. It had good bitterness for an APA, but I don't really like biscuity malts or grassy bitterness.

Growler fill from DeCicco's in Ardsley, NY

Pour is clear, lighter amber, the head is near white, fluffy and looser. Stays a spell, before leaving a high collar and nice well developed webs of fine lacing.

Nose is flush with basil, pepper and earthy hops.

Flavorful, enjoyable and pleasing APA. Site says the style goes well with pungent cheese and salad and I can confirm this fact. Nice balance of more moderatly spiced hops and maple malts with a minor nuttyness adding some nice complexity and interest. Well crafted and a nice addition to the Left Hand line of brews. Well worth a try.

Appearance: minimal head, golden-brown in color, cloudy, high carbonation

Smell: pineapple, toasted malt, and citrus hops

Taste: light toasted malt, caramel, and citrus hops in the back

Mouthfeel: medium carbonation, medium bodied, very sweet with a bitter backbone, dry

Overall: Nice and sweet tasty pale ale. I could do a six of these. One of the better pales I have had in a while, although the bitterness really does not hit until the end.

The beer pours an orange-amber color with a white head. The aroma is full of orange citrus and biscuit malt, with some light pine notes. The flavor has a lot of bitter pine as well a some light orange citrus. The biscuit malt keeps the bitterness low. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

I thought about Terrapin/Left Hand when reading they made a new pale with rye in it. This one appears a pale copper hue bright brilliant crystal clear body. Head forms nicely, fine speckled lacing that sticks evenly with each sip to my DFH pint. Aroma spicy rye with citric/pine hops going on this is a nice straightforward drinking hoppy RyePA. America say goodbye to Jackman's Pale Ale and say hello to Stranger American Pale Ale. Adds a nice level of complexity to an APA, crisp bitterness cuts through the body...citric/pine/spicy rye comes off iniitally as the beer warms a nice caramel spiced breadiness flavor comes around. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied evenly carbonated goes down smoothly, right at 5% abv will work for an American session ale for sure. Drinkability overall is excellent, complexity flavor and quality come to mind with my first few samples of this newly released Left Hand Pale Ale. Good choice the last six of Jackman's I had wouldn't go away I'm glad this was at the beer store this weekend.

(Served in a tulip glass)
Bottled 1/21/12
Drank 5/1/12
A- This beer pours a slightly hazy orange body with a rocky white head that last and last sticking to the glass with each sip.

S- The pale malt hint has a softer green woody hop note that follows.

T- The woody dry green hop flavor has quick hop bite in the finish and a slight mint quality in the hops lingers in the aftertaste.

M- The medium mouthfeel has a gentle fizz that compliments the hops in the finish.

O- This beer has some nice flavors that are a bit soft and muted but a nice dry woody hop flavor makes it easy to drink.
