This is a very clear, copper-colored liquid, topped with a pale white head. The smell is more malty than expected...a pale malt, clean and sweet-smelling. The malt aroma has a nearly grist-like, malt-extract quality. There are moderate hop scents, herbal and just a little spicy. The taste is similar, but the hops shine through a bit more than in the aroma. The finish is a little dry. Low in carbonation. It's a reasonably good beer, fine for a session.

12 oz bottle poured into a diconic with "bottled on 10/06/11"
stamped on the bottle neck. (seems a little old for a local beer)

Fairly light amber color with a decent head but only about one finger that disappears rapidly.

Predominant smell is the rye malt, not much else. Maybe some wheat.

The rye malt also dominates the taste. Gives it a nice peppery bite. Aftertaste is a strong bitterness.
(It looks like a lot of reviewers are not recognizing that it is
RYE malt that is the "unusual" taste and smell that many mention. The rye is noted on the bottle label and was
mentioned to me by the Left Hand employee that sold me
the beer)

The feel is really nice with a continuous pleasant fizz.

Overall, it's kind of sessionable if you really are into a bitter aftertaste.

Pours a toasted straw color with a short tight bubbled head that settles into a light cap with a small sheet of lacing on the glass.

The aroma is more malty than hoppy. A bready malt with a substantial toffee scent, buttery. There is some brown sugar sweetness. Very light tropical fruit hop note.

The taste is of toffee and caramel. A bit buttery with a substantial bready malt. There is a grassy hay like flavor, dry and dusty. Really not much hop flavor, some quick tropical fruit notes followed by grass. Some brown sugar.

The feel is moderate with prickly carbonation. Starts off quite sweet but then transitions into a drying finish. Its bizarre but it balances the APA nicely.

Malt forward APA, actually seems more like an EPA to me. Toffee malt is the main flavor to this beer. As an APA this is just average.

A- Dark golden with plenty of thick white head that leaves behind quite a bit of lacing

S- Moderate pine-hop aromas

T- Moderate hops throughout with a building bitterness, towards the end some of the malt comes in lightly, aftertaste has a slight warming and golden malt flavor

M- Moderate carbonation, light body, lingers a bit on the palate

O- Good brew, I found it lacking a little bit in the aroma though and it was a little better than average

A: single finger head on a hazy golden-crimson body with thin lacing.

S: nice hop and malt profile with smokey and cirtus notes.

T: fairly hoppy but dull in a way. Not much sharpness or bitterness. Mostly mild grassy and earthy flavors. wood and mild citrus notes.

M: medium body and moderate carbonation.

Overall: This pale ale is a little different and seems a little light. Its fairly drinkable but not very memorable.
