Pours into an imperial pint glass a deep russet brown wich was a little unexpected but a full one finger off white head made for a good pour.Aromas of citric hops and doughy malts, the hops win out but just barely.Flavors to me are more sweetish and malt tilted with the maple really coming thru as well as some drying nuttines and sweet biscuit dough, the hops come in late providing some citric aftertones but to me this is not an IPA by any means. This is a good beer but not what the label says it is by any means.

beer pours amber with a nice head. aroma was inviting. however, the taste is metallic. there's a nice bitterness. it doesn't have much characteristic beyond that.

i'm disappointed with this brew. it advertizes that it's an "ale brewed with spice, aged on maple bats with spice added". i was hoping for a little more. it's very one dimentional for an ale brewed with spice. stick with the 400 pound monkey for a nice IPA from Left Hand.

This beer is a dark orange color with almost a light brown kind of edge to it. The head is a pale yellow, one finger tall and fluffy. It takes some time to fall to a foamy island, which in turn deposits some mostly patchy lace on the glass.
This beer is nicely hoppy (surprisingly so after I'd heard some mixed reviews), a strong backbone of bitterness showing off the hops with just a little balance from some bready and slightly sweet malts. The focus is on pine, a touch of pith with a rawness to it. There's a citrus zest (orange) note to it also, and a somewhat drier ghost of something woody flashes in and out, slightly stronger in the finish. There's an earthy must with a very light note of something almost like black pepper. A little hint of alcohol sneaks into every sip.
This beer has a medium body, plenty crisp while also plenty smooth. It's semi-dry and remains so from beginning to end. The hint of alcohol keeps it from getting sticky while it leans toward the sweeter side.

Pours a golden amber color with a smallish dense tan head that quickly settles into a light ring. Nice color but not much else.

The aroma is of a musty hop blend. Some faded orange and apricot notes. The maple provides some sweetness. Not sure what spice I am supposed to pick up; I guess I pick up some pepper. Overall, the aroma reminds me of a candied IPA.

The aroma is sweet, bitter, and hop spicy. The hops are musty and bitter. Light pine and resin provide the bitter and an apricot note provides some sweetness. The hop profile is quite peppery. The maple provides some additional sweetness, which the beer needs, but doesn't add much to the flavor. Again, not sure what spice they added.

The feel is moderate. At first, beer has a nice balance between sweet and bitter but the bitter comes out and finishes the deal. Nice active carbonation helps keep the malt body in check. Bit of a chalky dryness in the finish.

Quite a bitter IPA. Maple doesn't seem to do all the much and I still don't know what spice they used. But if you want a solid bitter only IPA, this ain't too bad.

From a bomber poured into a tulip glass
Her nice amber with a good head and lacing
Taste is very full with piney and citrus hops balanced by a sweetness and spicy notes
Overall a very good effort which would not disappoint fans of the IPA style while offering more to anyone that appreciates strong ales

A: in a pint, deep amber and clear, tan head a few fingers high, laces left behind...

S: malty maple trees and leaves, woodsy and earthy and mild

T: malts up front, earthy and musky, sweet hints of maple syrup, smooth and mellow, mild bitterness and some subdued orange pith and vague sweet, chewy nut

M: very smooth and creamy, faint bitterness, modest carbonation, light-medium body

O: I enjoyed this, but bear it mid this is no hop-bomb IPA or the like - it is a good autumnal ale, to me a little reminiscent of the darker amber-colored IPAs - drinkable, nice malt flavors; didn't get much "zest" from the orange, although it probably melded in with everything else, and any spices used presented a very light autumn/winter holiday flavor that I found very enjoyable. A decent beer to have once, but nothing that I'd return to.

Poured into a Left Hand shaker pint.

The beer is a solid copper color with a finger of tan head that dissipates to a bubbly film. Light lacing remains initially.

The aroma is a rich combination of piny hops, faint spices, and a subtle sweet maple syrup that adds a delicious balance.

The taste starts out with a bitter hops, piny and sprucey, then malty and sweet with just enough maple syrup to make it perfectly balanced. The finish is faintly spicy.

Mouthfeel is slightly sticky, medium to heavy.

Overall, I like what they do with maple in this. Woody, spicy, with a touch of sweetness.
